Mysterious Shadow R1 at EMA.

Post by BOLLO » Fri Sep 17, 2010 11:06 pm

Gents,this arrived at Easy Midlands Airport Friday night just around 17.45.At first i thought it was a new machine for the RAF on delivery with it carrying a Canadian serial.But it seems the serial is not what it seems and belongs to another aircraft in storage in Turkey :S :S .If you look at the RAF R1's and this one you will see one or two differences in antennas prop hubs being a different color.Here are a few shots,what do you boys think.

Nice catch fella. There are a few differences from the RAF version. The canoe fairing underneath is different and the aerial fit on the spine is also different. Also, the Shadow doesnt have the big aerial on top of the fin.

I wonder who it belongs to :S

Nice catch there , very interesting. I typed in the registration on Flightaware and found out the following flight history ;

Date Aircraft Origin Destination Departure Arrival Duration
16-Sep-2010 BE30/Y Iqaluit (CYFB) Sondre Stromfjord (BGSF / SFJ) 01:26PM EDT result unknown (?) n/a
16-Sep-2010 BE30/Y CFB Goose Bay (Goose Bay) (CYYR) Iqaluit (CYFB) 01:42PM UTC 12:10PM EDT 2:28
15-Sep-2010 BE30/R Bangor Intl (Bangor) CFB Goose Bay (Goose Bay) (CYYR) 04:39PM EDT 10:53PM UTC 2:14
15-Sep-2010 BE30/Q Hagerstown Rgnl (KHGR) Bangor Intl (Bangor) 01:23PM EDT 03:21PM EDT 1:58

No info on the ownership though. Hagerstown Airport ( KHGR ) is home to Northrop Grumman / California Microwaves.

Here is a better shot of it from this morning parked up and one of it departing "NASA" style.Looking at it,it seems a wee bit shorter than our Shadow R1's so this may not be a 350ER. :unsure: :unsure:

As the chap said on CA it departed to Brindisi where ever that is. :lol: :lol:

Brindisi is in Italy, probably a fuel stop heading east. Maybe Top Aces have gone into the ISTAR business? A fifth Shadow has been ordered by the RAF, not sure when its due though, it would probably go to Hawarden first.

It's probably one of the B300s that were ordered for use in Afghanistan by/for Canada

The plan was to use contract pilots, so perhaps Top Aces has the gig (ike DO systems here)
