Re: Chinook school visit.
30 years ago when Gazelles, Scouts and Lynx landed on RAF Brampton's sports field, the fire tender HAD to be in attendance. Have the rules changed or was the local fire brigade in attendance at the school? Although thinking about it, 1982 I saw a Chinnok land at RAF Hospital Ely without a fire tender being present.
Reading through the comments on the link, someone's grumbled about " the fligtht wasting tax payers money" whilst someone else has defended the training exercise.

UK military helicopter's can operate away from their bases and land / take off without any fire cover at each location in what is known as "field conditions". They do it all the time and it is the nature of their work. The local fire service is not required and the fire tender was in attendance at RAF Brampton simply because there was one based there with the RAF Fire Section at the time. Cheers.

Some of the comments about that video are just pathetic... makes me ashamed to live in this country at times. People should get the facts before gobbing off! Rant over
