FAIRFORD 2012 RIAT THEMES

Diamond Jubilee - RAF to fly epicC 'EIIR' TRIBUTE at Air Tattoo

Following on from Her Majesty's visit to the Royal International Air Tattoo in 2008, we will be joining national and international celebrations marking Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in summer 2012.

Throughout her 60-year reign, strong links have been forged between members of the Royal Family and military aviation with HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, HRH the Prince of Wales, HRH the Duke of York, HRH the Duke of Cambridge and HRH Prince Harry all earning their Wings.

The Air Tattoo, which was granted Royal Status in 1996, will be delivering its own personal salute to our much-loved and respected monarch who has devoted her life to serving the United Kingdom, her other Realms, and the Commonwealth since her accession to the throne on February 6, 1952.

The dramatic flypast of RAF Hawks that flew over Windsor Castle a few weekends as part of the Armed Forces' tribute to HM The Queen will provide the centrepiece of the Royal International Air Tattoo's Diamond Jubilee celebrations at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire this summer.

Visitors to the airshow on July 7-8 will be able to see a repeat of the EIIR flypast, comprising 27 BAE Systems' Hawk fast jets from RAF Valley in Anglesey and RAF Leeming in Yorkshire.

"Mass flypasts" are only rarely staged because of the incredible amount of practice and planning involved. To have the opportunity to feature the EIIR element of the Armed Forces' official tribute to the Queen at Fairford is not only a great honour but it will also provide a wonderful spectacle for our visitors."

The Flyby by the 27 Hawk Jet's is planned to occur at 12.30 (local) time at IAT Fairford on the 8th July.
These 27 Hawks are operating from RAF Valley

SkyLift

Aviation's heavyweights are being invited to flex their muscles at the Royal International Air Tattoo 2012 by demonstrating their capabilities across a wide range of operational scenarios.

Whether deployed tactically or strategically, the role of giant military transporters and heavy-lift helicopters in delivering troops and equipment quickly and safely is key to the success of combat, peace-keeping and humanitarian campaigns around the world.

The operational theme SkyLift will showcase modern, versatile and long-range aircraft such as the KC-30, C-17 Globemaster III, KC-767, A400M, A330 and Antonov 124 as well as the more venerable types such as the C-5 Galaxy, KC-10, KC-135, C-130 Hercules and Ilyushin II-76 which have been the mainstay of airlift and refuelling operations worldwide for more than 30 years.

Also providing critical frontline support, and equally welcome, are smaller transport aircraft such as the CASA CN-235, Merlin, Ch-47 Chinook and the Alenia C-27 Spartan - whose masterful flying display at RIAT 2011 earned its Italian Air Force crew the Douglas Bader Trophy for the Best Individual Flying Display.

Page Reserved for FAIRFORD RIAT arrivals

LAST UPDATED - TODAY - 8th July 2012 13.00 hours

Hopefully this year, I will again try and add aircraft arrivals each day;

To undertake this function again Hopefully, you will supply any information you note, on the day of the arrival and send them to me, via TXT, or email. Then this info, will be added to each days arrival, I would like the following info if possible.

Time of Arrival (local BST time)....Callsign:.....Registration/serial......Aircraft type........Unit/Sqn...............Notes; i.e. special colours scheme etc

The RIAT are not going to publish a list of Monday or Tuesday arrivals, while these are USAF aircraft only, confusion exists due to the fact that 4th of July (American Independence Day), that some of these movements may delay to spent this special day (4th July) with their families back home in the States, before departing to Fairford.

Monday 2nd July: Restricted movements only - USAF Airfield (420th ABS)
No arrivals

Tuesday 3rd July: Restricted movements only - USAF Airfield (420th ABS)

2012 Fairford IAT Frequencies, Aircraft; Times & Information

Post by RJ79 » Fri Jun 15, 2012 5:46 pm

Having a rough count up that makes about 215 planes (both static and display) with still 2 more updates to go. Let's hope there are still some good additions from the USAF too.
Cheers,

Minor updates added,

including registrations/serial where known

If a registration is display in brackets it is not displayed on the aircraft i.e.

XX704 (G-BCUV): Aircraft is in full RAF colours and displays and the registration displayed on the airframe as "XX704"

Pages updated with minor changes, to reflect the current situation (i.e. DHL aircraft attending), and further serials/registration added.

While I fully aware that IAT say that both a DHL Boeing 757 & 767 are confirmed as coming, however I understand it is the Boeing 757 is confirmed as coming (I know this as the pilot has invited me to visit the flight deck), however while they hope (at this stage) that they will also be able to supply a Boeing 767 as well, but this is not fully confirmed at this stage.

Other minor difference of attendance (between my section and IAT web page) also occur on the list (page 1), however I will not add any major confirmed attendance's until the RIAT, confirm themselves.

Further to my comment elsewhere

I would be very surprised if the Russians attended 2012 RIAT at Fairford (and Farnborough).

Just think of the security of having the Russians in the UK, while their Mortars; tank shell's etc and helicopters are killing civilian, in towns and villages in Syria...

Having their equipment on display... would attract verbal abuse, if not worse by people who very strongly object to what the Russian are doing (supporting) the Syrian Government, killing its own people.

On the legal side, you could have a legal situation, where Russian arm sellers are arrested on serious Crimes against humanity warrants being issued by UK or European Courts (for example of "Aiding and Abeting in murder of civilians"), as the UN has clearly stated that the Syrian use of heavy weapons and airborne attacks on civilian areas are serious crimes under international law.

Even more so, if recent report that the Russian are preparing to send troop by sea on at least two Russian military ships to Syria.

So I would be surprised if the Russians do attend the 2012 RIAT Fairford Air Shows.

Russian companies are committed to Farnborough, unless something very drastic happens they will be there. DSEI is a good example of a trade show where the exhibitors commit despite what is happening in the world. Knights are also committed to be there but as they are state military then they could well be pulled as any stage...

Still awaiting my pilots friends email, re new foreign participants aircraft to the Fairford Air show.....

My pilot friend is still awaiting his Ops Clearance to take part... :pop: :pop:

Further to this, IAT appear also to be sitting on at least one, possible two other countries who appear to be now coming to Fairford 2012.

Hopefully the IAT will announce these countries tomorrow, so that I can add these to the listing on page one (asap) ???

One thing to remember for air-air / display freqs for some participants, F-5's, MB-339's and the confirmed F-16's each have one VHF and one UHF radio. So if working military ATC on UHF inbound they will be chatting on VHF then vice versa once with Brize then Fairford on VHF ATC.

Great info..

Any chance HunterF6, you could supply a list of possible Air to Air... to add to the page one listing.

Sorry but unlikely due to lack of time, the freqs used by F16s have been well documented in the past, likewise the Swiss and Saudi freqs. For the 'new' teams then searching will be required for the freqs, all part of the fun
