Greenham Common IATS - '77-'83
I note that this year marks the 40th Anniversary of Fairford's RIAT. How time flies! I remember the '85 one like it was yesterday. However for this post I'd like to go back even further to those held @ Greenham Common, of which I attended four between '77 and '83. NATO's Tiger Meet was the theme of ...

Twenthe - April '82
The recent Twente (sic) post evoked memories of an all too brief visit I made back in April '82 during a rest stop on a journey to visit family in what was then West Germany. On a sunny Spring weekday the base was very busy with all the F-5s I saw being from 313 Sqn. the OCU for the type As we were ...

Thanks for the info Paul which would seem to clinch it being 852 as defo had RWR. That's a great shot of it BTW!

BAe Brough Open Day - 18 June'83
Seeking to establish serial of one of the pair of Phantoms that opened the Flying Display. It was one of the unmarked pair based @ HOSM and would have been either XT852 or 853 but the serial no. is impossible to discern on the single pic of it I got.

Mosquito Day @ YAM 15 May '91
The Yorkshire Air Museum's 1991 Open Day was selected for the roll out of Tony Agar's Mosquito NFII NJ711 and hence designated Mosquito Day. The date of 15 May was relevant being the 50th Anniversary of the first flight of the Mosquito NF prototype and it was arranged for BAe's Mosquito RR299 to vis...

Elvington Golden Jubilee Celebration....and Closure event
Wednesday 25 March '92 was the occasion of a unique event as it was not only a celebration of the Golden Jubilee of RAF Elvington but also marked its closure as a Relief Landing Ground for RAF Church Fenton's 7FTS, the closure of which would soon follow. The airfield had an interesting history being...

Re: Appeal for pics of YAM replicas @ RIAT '03
Thanks eLaRef but these are nt really suitable as the only YAM replica depicted is the BE2 in the b/ground of the 1st pic. As I believe the Museum sent down a ground crew I'm sure they'll have some pics of the event.

Appeal for pics of YAM replicas @ RIAT '03
As this year marks the 40 th Ann. of Yorkshire Air Museum I'm putting together a pictorial history and wonder whether anyone out there has any pics of the trio of YAM replicas (Wright Flyer, Avro 504, & BE2) which featured in 100 Yrs of Powered Flight static display @ RIAT '03. Ideally one showing t...

Re: Nearly Gulf War Buccaneer 'Dirty Harriet'
Clearest image I've seen Tom. Many thanks. Do you know if it was by the same artist who did the ones in theatre as the style looks different?

Nearly Gulf War Buccaneer 'Dirty Harriet'
Bit of a long shot but was wondering whether anyone out there has a close up of the nose art on 'Dirty Harriet' the Bucc which had been prepared as a replacement for the Det out in the Gulf when the War ended leaving her surplus to requirements. I caught her performing a flypast @ the '91 Yorkshire ...

Re: A-10 Patch ID needed
Already done guys. Defo the 511th known as The Vultures. Don't know where I got Ravens from. Probably a NFL telecast! Anyway found the 81 TFW website with all the patches which resolves the issue. Thanks for the help.

Re: A-10 Patch ID needed
Three of the WR Sqns. were named after birds. 91st - Vultures, 510th - Buzzards and 511th - Ravens and I must say that the cartoon bird depicted looks more like a Vulture than anything else to me rather than a Raven which is all black. Does anyone have this patch in their collection?

A-10 Patch ID needed
Pl. can anyone identify the squadron whose patch is seen on this recently scanned pic of an A-10 pilot? From my ornithological knowledge am thinking 91 TFS 'Vultures' but verification required. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54236198778_ca4bb7ad4d_h.jpg A-10 pilot by Michael Britton , on Flickr

Hawgs in the UK mud - and some Alaskan ones
Inspired by the recent post in Current Military of Hawg action Stateside I decided to delve into my archive for memories of when they were based over here. There were six Sqns based at Woodbridge/Bentwaters from the late 70s which were trimmed down to two which transferred to Alconbury at the end of...
