Re: Lipetsk 17th of August 2005. Picture heavy.

From memory “some” of the money we paid went into the pockets of the senior officers involved in setting up the visits. Apparently and allegedly the money we paid didn’t reach the right pockets which is why we were less than welcome. It was the same at Kubinka, a couple of knackered old transports ...

Re: Lipetsk 17th of August 2005. Picture heavy.

Hi Mike, I was there! A truly spectacular day, the highlight of an amazing trip. I too have always wondered exactly how we came to be treated to such a show. From what I recall we were given the option to drive through the night to see a navalised Mig29, just about the only thing we didn't see. I ha...

It may be worth speaking to Harrisons in Sheffield too. I have always found they are great to sell to and I have generally found them the most generous with their valuation.

Engine runs have been carried out in the last couple of weeks but whether they have done enough to enable flight remains to be seen

Re: Lancaster to RIAT?

Chipmunk and leased Aero Legends Dakota have both flown. but yes, as nighthawke said the Lanc wont be attending as its Merlin powered Thank you both. That's been my understanding, hence my surprise at it remaining on the list. I would have assumed the RIAT organisers are better informed than the re...

Lancaster to RIAT?

The Lancaster is listed to attend RIAT this weekend, with a display slot allocated, so I understand. The fighters were cancelled several weeks ago. I am curious to know if there is any indication to say this is likely to happen? As far as I am aware there has been no aircraft movements since the acc...

Re: Upgrade to mirrorless or full frame?

I upgraded my 7D for an R7 last year. I already had a 100-400L II. I also picked up an R100-400 as it was offered at a good price. As mentioned by others, the build quality/weather seal is different, I wouldn't want to have the R series running with rain, the movable screen feels particularly vulner...

Re: King’s Coronation Flypast Info 25th - 27th April & 6th May 2023

On the subject of a possible re-scheduled flypast, has any authoritive commentator or spokesperson actually mentioned such a possibility? My understanding is that the sheer enormity of the task, weaving a major flyfast through the crowded skies of the home counties, means that if it doesn't happen ...

Re: Biden visit to mildenhall

Does anyone have any thoughts on the timing for the visit tomorrow, based on previous experience or actual information. If an E4 does head to Mildenhall what are its timings relative to the VC25? How easy would you expect be to view these aircraft? Will disruption extend outside of the base? Having ...

Re: Red Arrows New Leader 2020?

Confirmed in the UKAR podcast with Martin Pert, that he will be replaced. All other team members staying on to next year. If I recall correctly, the justification being that the new guys this year may be up to speed on the flying, but haven't had the opportunity to experience airshows and the logist...

Re: Red Arrows New Base?

I think short term, Scampton will remain as the practice area - people have to remember that the "danger area" they practice in is a 5 mile radius up to 9,000 or 10,000ft. Yes, fire and emergency cover would be required, as would ATC, but importantly the airfield itself would not require upkeep to ...

Re: BBMF Dakota at Manchester

Thanks. I have never been clear what the situation is with spare Dakota engines is within the BBMF. They have had a lot of problems in recent years with them, leading to significant periods of unserviceability. This makes me wonder if they keep any serviceable spares at all?

Lancaster?

Hi, I have read through the PDA thread and I am unclear on the current situation with the BBMF and specifically the Lanc. As far as I can see the Lancaster hasn't flown at all? Anybody have any news? Cosford is just days away, I presume that it would display there, unless there has been a problem? R...

Anyone know possible transit heights when overflying waypoints such as Winterton. Might be able to make Winterton for planned 15.03 today, but not going if they fly over in the cloud a couple of thousand feet or so up.

BBMF formation late afternoon 9th July.

A friend has sent me a short video of what seems to be two Hurricane formated around another aircraft , followed by three Spitfire, then Lancaster and Dakota. Anyone see what the mystery aircraft was, my guess from the video is either an Islander or Twin Pioneer (not sure there are any airworthy) Th...
