Assume this is the aircraft I saw on approach just after 3pm yesterday?
Weather was horrendous, only just saw it through the rain.
Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....

Re: MH-47
Saw them overhead This Morning Southbound... Plus around the same time an Apache going North. Saw them too, but no Apache. Around the same time, single aircraft a few miles apart were making contrail circles at altitude over East Lothian. Spotted 2, making the circular contrails, but there may have...

Re: RAF Kirknewton
Not sure if this is Military as such - just had a text from a friend saying he spotted a Biplane flying around Kirknewton airfield not long ago. He'd done some further investigation & came across some information regarding a rebuild & trial flight(s) of a Sopwith Strutter & suspects this is what he ...

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
I'll say that my video filming was a lot more successful than I thought! However, I had a pyrotechnics display behind me to the North of the airport, and it stopped as the P8 was banking to its right to head back north. I did hear the control tower ask about the alleged sightings of flares. Anyway,...

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
Last one for the year tonight. If it goes ahead, fingers crossed that the wind eases off a bit, it's fairly blowy out there just now.

Yes, I noticed that. Never a good sign when an aircraft is due to retire - in the sense we may never see one again. Fitting tribute though.Black Mike wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 12:45 pmMost likely the last but never say never. It got a water canon salute from the fire service when taxying in.

Re: Sun 18th August
Is this aircraft due back, or is that another one consigned to the History books?
I know the RIAT visit was the last, was hoping to maybe get lucky at Prestwick.

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
Although conditions for filming / taking photo's were pants, that A400 looked good against the clear darkening sky when it passed above & in front of us around Gorgie. Seemed quite low, so we could clearly make out what type it was, but that's about it. Moved quite slow too, or was that just me thin...

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
The good people of RAF Brize Norton have the honours again tonight. A400 'Atlas' for the flypast.

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
I can't believe why so many people get so excited about ONE Typhoon or ONE A400M in the sodding dark! :S Sadly, that's because it's pretty much all we up here in Scotland get nowadays. The best flypast I've seen over Edinburgh surprisingly isn't Tattoo related either - it was Concorde in formation ...

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
Sorry I thought you meant was it worth your turning up to watch. There seems to be a difference of opinions between the locals on these threads. Some complaining that the council want to stop the flights and others saying why bother because it's too dark. It's really one & the same thing - I've lon...

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
Of course it's safe - it's what they do. Is it worth it? Well that's for you to decide. Yes, under operational circumstances, I'm not questioning their skill or professionalism, but a flypast over Edinburgh Castle in the dark? Whether or not it's worth it sadly isn't up to me, but it makes no sense...

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
Only 2 more to go. I'm a bit nervous about the P8-A on the 23rd though. I understand these aircraft & their crews have a job to do, & that takes priority, - IIRC - even Nimrod, back in the day had to come off of patrol briefly to perform flypasts at Leuchars Airshows so we could see them, so the RAF...

Hopefully the weather & light holds out for this one.
Edit - just noticed the photo on the twitter / x feed is a German (Luftwaffe) example.

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
Going by the crowds in Princes Street Gardens, & those lining the railings along Princes Street yesterday, it seems not all are opposed to a little jet noise. Might just be me, but the Reds looked to be flying directly above the railway, as opposed to directly over the Esplanade & then the Castle.

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
Don't get me wrong re my definition of loud - I've heard louder too (Concorde, B1B, Harrier in hover - that last one's probably up for debate though, but to me it's right up there for ear splitting decibles 😄) & there's no doubt windows were rattled & car alarms set off, as Typhoon does every year. ...

Re: Edinburgh military tattoo flypasts 2024
I could have done with a bit of the afterburner symphony!!! There was the briefest of afterburner right over the castle (basically like flicking a light switch on and off quickly), but again it feels like it might have been restricted to fend off more complaints. Same as last year, every Typhoon th...

Thanks for those.
According to the Met Office, sunset is 2106 tonight & 2050 next Wednesday (14th) - losing around 15 minutes of daylight at night per week. Those 'heavies' are going to be hard to see.
