RAE Bedfords modified Gnat XP505 Rear Cockpit - Information Request

Hi all - I’m in the middle of a long term modelling project of Bedford’s needle nosed Gnat XP505 and I’ve been trying to find photographs or illustrations of the aircrafts seatless rear cockpit ideally when it was still in use as a test aircraft. The aircraft is today owned by the Science Museum and...

Re: A Victor valediction

Mildenhall - it was fuel not smoke. We were under the approach and I thought it unusual as he turned in to see smoke. As he shot across us however we were enveloped in swirling kerosene and it continued pouring out on his run out.

Re: Alconbury in the 80s

Loved Owl End. Once went down there on the 4 July and wondered why it was so quiet. I was quite young (and a bit thick!). Ended up cycling over to Wyton where it was business as usual.

Re: A Dozen in Black & White

Always had a second body loaded with B&W just in case. Used to bang them into Aviation News. Think they paid about £2.00 a shot - hardly worth it really.

Loved Honington especially the Buccs but they didn't like you hanging around the fence. The number of times we were moved on - miserable buggers!

Blimey that brings back memories. I think that Coningsby Open Day was the only time I (remember) seeing a Hastings fly - lovely!

One last thought - S&M Decals did a 1/72 Lightning decal sheet that featured XS901/G complete with zap. The product code is SSM72004.

Re: LF:Information on 11Sqn Lightning's Late 70s Serial No,s

Hi 'Lightning Force' by Fred Martin has a starboard side picture of F.6 XS901/G wearing the WS10 zap and the day glo panel at the top of the tail. No pilots name on this side of the aircraft. 'EE Lightning' by Martin Derry and Neil Robinson has a port side picture of F.3 XP701/O also wearing the zap...
