Wattisham Evening 03/04/2025.

On a whim I put my camera in the car when I set off for work intending to pop by my local on the way home. Apaches have been a bit more active of late. Last year they were transitioning to the AH2 and it was very quiet. It was nice to have one operate over crash gate 2 and do some higher energy mano...

Re: Canon EF100-400 Mk1 Lens cleaning & service

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ironically I used to work round the corner from the Colchester place and was quite annoyed when they closed. I had a look at the Fixation website and they no longer support the Mk1. The may have been able to clean it but if they needed to change a seal or something they...

26/02/25 – Cobra Warrior, crazy weather!

I had an unexpected day off Wednesday last. Despite the weather forecast I headed up to Waddington…. The weather did not disappoint! Torrential rain and biblical hailstorms for pretty much every launch. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54364050653_c3caa9f3cb_o.jpg a268A1097 by timothyholden , on ...

Canon EF100-400 Mk1 Lens cleaning & service

Hi All I have the ubiquitous Canon EF 100-400 Mk1. I was at Waddo yesterday and got caught in a biblical rain & hailstorm. Normally I wave a water cover for the lens but it had dropped out of my camera bag. Found it on the floor when I got home! As soon as the temperature dropped, my lens misted up....

USS Hornet Museum & NAS Alameda Tour

I visited the USS Hornet Museum in Alameda a couple of weeks ago. Later in the trip I spent a frustrating day at Nellis which was very quiet and none of the pictures are worth posting :( https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54064760130_319525440f_o.jpg a268A9095 by timothyholden , on Flickr https://l...

Kings Birthday Flypast 2024

Weather was a bit of a challenge in Suffolk. A bit grey on grey and dark with thunderstorms. Hopefully someone in London got some better shots in the sun. For the last few years they have moved the track further east so I have had to find a new location. Wish they just flew down the A12 like they us...

The Great Gazelle Sell Off

Back in 2002 retired Gazelle HT2's of the RAF and RN were tendered for sale. There was an event at Redhill to showcase and demo to prospective buyers. A friend from work used to fly from Redhill and knew the demo pilots said he could get me a flight. After several hours the last of the customers had...

KA27 on a Neustrashimy Class Frigate

It seems unthinkable now but back in 2003 a Russian Navy Frigate moored up in London. It coincided with a state visit by Vladimir Putin. I went to take a few pictures and was astounded to be invited on board for a tour. On the flight deck was a KA27 helicopter. I asked if I could take pictures in th...

Bit late to the Cobra Warrior party

Couple of weeks ago I spent at couple of days at Lakenheath & Mildenhall for Cobra Warrior. Weather was not the best but here are my efforts. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53221502693_d4fe125e55_o.jpg a268A6208 by timothyholden , on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53221699185_77e478...

Re: Top Guns Inside The RAF

Seen worse. Interesting loadout on the Typhoon taxying out during the "Alpha Scramble" from Amari towards the end of the 3rd section of the program (about 45 mins in). What's the pod on the port wing station? Doesn't look anything like the drop tank on the starboard wing. Looks a bit like the ECM p...

Hi Gary.

It's been so quiet. Last night however they were night flying. There seem to be some based at Balado airfield south of Perth, Scotland.

Re: Wattisham Oldies Part 4 - End of Days

I now regret not shooting slides. Slides digitise so much better. I have a high end slide scanner and have experimenting with scanning negatives, but struggle to get accurate colours. Shots taken on a sunny day convert ok but grey day shots have weird colour tones that are difficult to correct. I ha...
