Re: Mach Loop query
Grrrrrrr :@ , i wish they wouldn't turn east so often at 9.01! Nothing more 5 seconds flying due south and everything would be flying over me more often instead of heading towards Lampeter at 9.53. After Lampeter its heading back north over the Cambrian mountains. :pop: Trying to pinpoint the landma...

Re: VC10 Fly through BAE Systems Warton 25th July 2013
Wow, to think both of us was at the "controls" of ZA148 only last saturday at the RIAT! Thanks to the crew who showed us around this old bird, they were a credit to the RAF, good bunch of lads. ZA148 first flew in 1962 with East African airlines before the RAF bought it and others and converted them...

All of you should have a 20th anniversary reunion next year on that wall! I was 14 in Feb '93, wish i'd taken more interest back then on what was flying round here! It was pretty relentless at times. Depressingly quiet these days.

I presume this was a mass exercise? Not sure what TLP means. Would anyone know where they mainly headed to on exercise?

Same here blackcat. Hardly anything low level over here since the A-10's in august. Nearly guaranteed a hawk pass everyday in the past...

Re: Yeovilton 1968 Phantoms arrive
Isn't there an archive site which has ALL the pathe newsreels available to watch for free? No time to search now as i'm going to work. Something classy about the blue colour scheme of those FAA phantoms.

Re: What Types have used the Mach loop over the years??
There's a local bloke who goes up the loop most days to take photos called Meirion i think, i read somewhere on the net a year ago that he's been taking his camera up at bwlch etc for the last 30 or so years. Don't no if it's true but i'd give my left arm to see some of those old pictures! In my gol...

Re: A time machine, a DSLR and 3 choices - where would you go?
1. Anytime in the mid 80's here at home in Wales when i was ages 6-9. Instead of running in to our garden shed blocking my ears at another imminent loud phantom low pass i'd like to go back and this time stay outside and look at them passing without worrying about my ears drums being purforated! 2. ...

F-4J(UK) '87 crash remembered on Welsh TV prog.
On the morning of the 26th of August 1987 3 74 squadron phantoms based at RAF Wattisham embarked on a low level intercept training flight in Mid Wales. Tragically the young crew of one of F4's would not return, ZE358/"H" crashed on a ridge 10 miles south east of Aberystwyth and a little over 10 mile...

Re: Mach Loop 28/01/11
Hi Dave. What was the serial of the Herc that passed you something like between 12.30pm and 12.45pm? I had a Herc overhead 20 miles south of Aberystwyth about 1pm and i assume it went in the loop before hand.
Excellent pictures by the way. It's much colder today!

Re: 2011 Calendars available now!
I currently use the RAF calendar at my work and sometimes write reminders etc on some dates. Will there be room on each date to write stuff on this calendar?
Around an Inch square is ideal. Thanks.

Re: Low flying activity
"Mountainman" on the Valley aviation society site writes a regular log of the loop in the low level reports/photos section of that site. Quiet here today, spotted one high level fast jet trail around midday today and this afternoon i spotted a low herc miles away up north. If anyone knows of a loop ...

Re: My flight in an F15 fighter
Looks like he went over Tal-y-llyn lake in the clip, am i right? Surely someone was at Bwlch etc that day and taken a photo of the passing F-15. If Alex remembers the date he flew in the aircraft and the serial number of the eagle maybe there's a photo of the pass in the web somewhere. Maybe even on...

Great idea this thread. I can be on youtube all day if i had the time watching anything about military aircraft stuff. Seems to be a lot of truly fascinating documentary videos on youtube that the BBC made in the 70's and 80's about the RAF and Navy pilots and exercises etc, i can't think of anythin...

Re: So what got you into our fine hobby?
How can any lad growing up in rural Mid West Wales in the 80's not be fascinated by vast and various low flying aircraft back then?? Born and bred and still living here in what hawk valley squadrons call this particular valley as the "starship enterprise" and been looking out for low flying jets sin...

Re: Visit 08/03/10
Spotted a low dark coloured herc routing east of Aberystwyth going southwards today at 13.00. Probably the one you saw half an hour later. Very quiet here at the coast with some flying at high level possibly the hawks routing to Pembrey.
