Re: Air Force Elite Thunderbirds
Spectacular flying and the Thunderbirds do not go hand in hand. The dullest fast jet team in existence.

Re: Strategic Defence Review - 2025
By the time any a/c are manufactured and delivered Trump will be long gone. Trump is determined to try and get a third term. That includes running as Vance's Vice President in 2028 and then having Vance step down as President. He also claims to have other options. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/trump-sa...

Re: LN Strike Eagles going home
Old politics game. One lot says "we're pulling out", next lot says "we're staying", in the meantime nothing happens. Actually I think you'll find its nothing to do with politics, they are getting old. Just like the older F-16s and A-10s have gone home, along with the F-15Cs that were with the 48th....

Re: Getting the Ball Rolling - Duxford VE Day Flying
A visit to Duxford today for the first flying day of the summer , photos in the order taken... Vey nice photos, but come on, where did you get that idea from!?! Yes, the weather is nice and unseasonably warm but it's NOT summer! Even the nutters at the Met Office don't claim that summer starts unti...

Re: Ramstein Flag - RAF Marham 3.4.25
Cracking set of images Matt, especially the Spanish  Great Shots Matt - you must have moved around the 'field to different vantage points a lot during the day ! At a guess, all of these have been taken from the western end of the airfield on the north side of the runway. Hence some of the land...

My log from 20th (apologies for any formatting problems - copied and pasted from old Word document) F-16C ?????/HRm "50 TFW" To update your log, the serial for the "50th TFW" commanders jet with multi colour fin-band is 84-1250, which can be read off on Keith's photo in this post (and from my own l...

Re: Canada and the F-35
I believe Saab were a close contender for the next generation Canadian fighter, with the Gripen. A fantastic little platform but lacking perhaps in the 5th generation capability and maintenance support intractructure. My feelings on the F35, I think it has its place in a perhaps multi platform air ...

Re: Jaguar 2 squadron XZ101 any photos?
The photo is nothing to do with me. I simply did a quick search using the first part if the OP's question, which, to be honest, they could have done themselves but I was trying to help a newbie. I was not getting at you,Nighthawke but just stating that this paticular A/c never went to the GR.3 Mod ...

Re: A-10 Patch ID needed
I would agree it's a Suffolk based squadron from back in the day but I thought it was the 511thTFS with the aircraft marked with Black fin-bands, outlined in white and the "Vultures" name in the band, not the 91st TFS which were blue?

Re: Lakenheath Visitor Summary - 2024
Thanks for the updated list. I was actually going to start a new thread but you have answered my question, which is, how many times have the RAF visited Lakenheath this year. The 48th seem to do many PDs across the RAF bases, but I wonder why the RAF don’t seem to replicate. Three F-35Bs and one Ty...

Re: Portugal launch customer for Embraer A-29N Tucano
Its a new addition to the Portuguese capabilities, they will use it for COIN and CAS, mainly for protection of Portuguese groundforces in UN missions. So its an armed plane, not a trainer. As a side note, Portugal is (unfortunately) looking for a new trainer to replace the Chipmunks. Also a slight ...

Re: Coningsby 'Jags'
But not at the same time as the other types above, which is the point of the post. Well there were neither Harriers or Tornado GR's based there either only the ADV version - F.2/F.3 On a footnote to you 3Greens - yes you are correct in saying that the Last Jaguar Out was GR.3A - XZ112 But it was in...

Re: Closure of Odiham, Benson and Wallop and turning Boscombe into a heli base- my proposal
Got a feeling I've read somewhere that both Odiham and Benson (and Wittering) are on land that was compulsorily 'leased' from some big land owners - Dukes or Barons or some such. And the leases state that when the MoD no-longer need them they must be returned to the original land owners in the same...

Re: Turkey to buy 48 Eurofighter Typhoon
IF not alrady a done deal then Trump will sign the deal, Turkey will get its F16s The same man who stopped the shipment of their first F-35 at point of delivery, kicked them out of the entire programme and applied sanctions to them? The first time one NATO member has ever sanctioned another? Turkey...

Originally, I wasn't going to put a comment, as I won't be going, but I did reply to the Customer Services email last night. I'm not renewing out of spite - just now having a family I would rather spend the money going away. Though if I was going, I wouldn't renew... Why bother asking members to sp...

Re: RQ-4B - FORTE 16
International law also requires military aircraft carry some form of national recognition symbol (roundels, stars and bar etc) That went out the window with the SR71 over 30 years ago. Back in 1956, the then Defence Minister (Duncan Sandys) said the RAF would be 'unlikely' to require fighters after...

Re: RQ-4B - FORTE 16
But then again, in the late 50's didn't people talk about the end of manned aircraft. Hence the personal struggle! So hypothetically in the future if say A330s, KC-46s or C-17s can be converted to operate entirely crewless BUT still carry passengers you would have no interest in them? Why does a hu...

Re: RQ-4B - FORTE 16
Whilst I don't personally 'do numbers' I do like to know what I've seen. This means that the commenced introduction of anonymous airframes (see KC-46 examples?) by the USAF may ultimately prevent the meaningful pursuit of 'Spotting'? I'm surprised these RQ-4's have serials & tailcodes in place. :O ...
