Re: Sir Nigel Gresley
Wat an awesome engine... Do you know how long it will stay at Carlisle? I'm afraid it was a day trip only. She returned to Crewe (via Chester) later the same day. If you have a look at Railway Herald: Railtours she is scheduled to head a return trip from Blackpool to Carlisle on Tuesday 02nd July, ...

Sir Nigel Gresley
A pristine Sir Nigel Gresley leaving Chester in glorious early morning June sunshine bound for Carlisle. As the loco was sidelit I have had to tweak the contrast and shadows quite harshly to achieve the details in the running gear. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54581262717_40119f46c0_b.jpg 011...

Re: Turkish F4 Phantom lucky escape
I think I read somewhere many years ago:- An F4 Phantom in a 45 degree dive at mach 1 requires a minimum
8,000 ft vertically to level out. True or not I don't know, either way it doesn't leave much wiggleroom.

Re: Exchange rates
As an aside to all of the above. In October/November 2003 on the last night of our trip (a Sunday) four of us went out for a meal in Pheonix. When it came to paying the bill my credit card was declined (I can't remember the reason why) however after several attempts and blind panic our friends paid ...

Re: Avalon Australia - part 2
The F-111 at night was always the best part of the Avalon airshow. Those were the days. Great pics. Are you attending Avalon next weekend? I'm afraid not. I have family in the Melbourne area and it's just possible I could get over to Australia in 2027 by which time I'll be 74 (health permitting). I...

Hi Mike, thanks for posting these. I was there in 2007 too; volunteered as part of the marshalling team, so these brought back lots of memories! Great stuff. Re: Avalon Australia - part 2
Thanks guys.
Red Dragon: when I returned from Australia I gave a talk and slideshow at one of the VAS meetings (April or May 2007).
I'm sure you would have been there!!
These probably haven't seen the light of day since then apart from a few I've printed.
Cheers,
Mike.

Avalon Australia - part 2
The other highlights of this show were:- F111's - unfortunately for the last time. Night flying/displays. Some of these photographs while not the best I've ever taken hopefully will be of interest to some of our older members. The two head on shots of the 'torching' F111 have been cropped hard (mayb...

Avalon Australia
In 2007 and 2011 I was very fortunate to have access to the trade days at the Australian International airshow at Avalon, Victoria. To say it was challenging photograpically is an understatement it was blisteringly hot, freezing cold, windy, dusty, raining, appalling light and sometime brilliant lig...
