Re: Blue Angels IMAX trailer
I can't find it in the listings on Imax's UK website nor in the listings or mentioned on the websites of the two screens near me. I'd have thought the London one would show it, they are normally pretty good at showcasing anything spectacular but it's not listed.

Re: Ace or not?
I had a read up on the Iranian drones, there's a good link from the general chat thread about them. It looks like the drones can be programmed using GPS, hence they have a bit of ECM to help deal with GPS jamming. With mobile launchers being used getting at the infrastructure will be really hard. Th...

I'd have thought they had preprogrammed flight paths rather than controllers.Ghastly Whisper wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 2:13 pmmeh it would be more impressive getting the crews flying the drones

Re: '70s Carrier shots - Probably from Ark Royal
Hi Sparts99. The Omega symbol was the marking carried by the jets of 892 NAS. There is nothing on the pics to give any clue as to when/where taken but defo a RN carrier as on a couple of the poorer quality pics which I have'nt bothered to scan there is a RN Wessex plane guard in view which would co...

Re: '70s Carrier shots - Probably from Ark Royal
That's interesting. I know FAA Phantoms cross decked with USN carriers, but I thought our carrier decks were too short for USN aircraft, or have I got that wrong? It's hard to imagine a big old F4 landing on one of our ships but a little Corsair couldn't Landing is fine, its the take off. The FAA c...

Standard camo and national markings for each country, code on tail (B-Britain, G-Germany, I-Italy). Small badge on fin for TTTE squadron (A,B,C or S). not long after TTTE started operating we were on a family holiday on the Norfolk Broads. A Tornado flew over very low but not very fast, I got a cle...

Were all the airframes in national markings or was there a specific TTTE colour scheme?

I was at that event and remember the 51 Sqn Nimrod take off well, everyone turning to watch and the clacking of all the cameras.

Re: One of Mosquito NZ2308, Warbirds over Wanaka 2024
Great to see another Mossie flying, means the FBIV for Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar is one step closer. I've been asking on a few forums about that colour scheme, silver with D-Day stripes. It seems the owner wanted it to be RNZAF and commemeorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, so perhaps the srtipes...

Might have been better to just repaint it in the prototype red and white? Looks a bit half done to me, not one thing or another.

Re: Warning!? Waddington and other airfields
I’ve looked at Gatwick and both runways have displaced thresholds. Eastern end the closest you can get is 800m and at the Western end it’s 615m so a fair bit away. Compared to Coningsby 230m, Waddington 220m and Lossie 185m. [/quote] The footpath at the railway and A23 road is slightly raised but li...

Re: What would H & S say
In the late 60s I used to go and see my Dad at work at the local BR station in the holidays and at weekends. Inevitably I got to know the porters and sometimes used to blow the whistle and wave the flag to see the trains out. As it was a commuter line with the trains shuttling up to London and back ...

Re: Warning!? Waddington and other airfields
You can get pretty close at Gatwick. There's a footpath from the railway station that runs next to the main road at the eastern end, you can get close at the Western end as well. Both good views for landing, not so good for take offs.

Re: March 11, 1971. Laarbruch
I was at ATC camp there a few years later when XV and 16 Sqns had Buccaneers, 2 Sqn Jaguars. One evening we went for a walk to look at the decoy Canberras, that didn't go down well.
