Re: European military force

I don't think we have any idea what US defence policy will be yet and beyond the bluster I doubt DJT has any real plan either. My best guess is that that the Republican leadership will ensure it's fairly conventional posture and any sort of draw-down from NATO is highly unlikely. There would be trem...

Griffin Emergency Landing and Fire Snowdonia

Seeing reports on social media of a helicopter crash in Snowdonia on a high peak around Snowdon. Some are saying military but not confirmed. First time I've posted an image here - hope it works! Caught the 2x2 ship passing over Kidderminster at 10:00 on Tuesday 3rd Lovely pic! :thumb: I'd noticed that the atmospheric conditions this week have been perfect for very persistent trails and I only have to look a little north to see lots of c...

Last Flight of T1 Hawks at Valley 14:00

This is a bit of a cross post from the Valley and Mona thread - but may be of wider interest. But the last flight of the T1 Hawks at Valley is at 14:00 this afternoon. The T1 airframes will then go to Leeming, Yeovilton and Scampton. It also means the disbandment of 208(R) Squadron. NB I'm told the ...

Re: Large scale exercise planned

I've posted in the mess forum - the old RAF Templeton is hosting a combined British-French air assault force from the 17th to the 23rd. 500 strong with a mix of helos. I'm also trying to get a date for a landing craft assault which is also scheduled in the area.

The disused RAF Templeton airfield in Pembrokeshire is hosting a combined British-French Air Assault force between the 17th and 23rd for GRIFFIN STRIKE. 500 strong with a mixture of helos. Castlemartin is also going to be active during this period and there's due to be a landing-craft assault in tha...

It all came from a Ministerial Statement by Julian Brazier, Minister for Defence Procurement, earlier today. It includes: In April 2014 all Air Cadet Organisation gliding was paused due to airworthiness concerns with the Grob Viking conventional glider and Grob Vigilant motorglider fleets utilised b...

Re: Syrian/Iraq air war and conflict

Please define the word "rebel(s)" when you make a post. I get confused who side these various people are fight ing for/with. :'( In relation to the Syrian Turkmen Army, they are Syrians but ethnic Turks and are rebelling against the Ba'athist regime of Bashar al-Assad. As they are Syrian participan...

Re: Syrian/Iraq air war and conflict

The rebel group known as the Syrian Turkmen Army has told the Reuters news agency that its forces shot the two Russian pilots dead as they descended by parachute....which I think is a war crime under the Geneva Convention of 1949. Article 42: 1. No person parachuting from an aircraft in distress sha...

Re: Northrop Grumman Wins Bomber Contract

I'd love it to be something like a stealthy, angular, Valkyrie (XB-70) but you would think it's not going to look terribly different to a B-2 - so a flying wing, perhaps more delta than a Spirit - like a BAE Taranis. No idea on specs but I guess the USAF will want something with a range of up to 8,0...

Northrop Grumman Wins Bomber Contract

Northrop Grumman has won the Pentagon contract for the Long Range Strike Bomber (LRS-B) to replace the B-52 and B-1. It's thought to the biggest defence contract in a decade and could be worth at least $80bn. The Virginia firm beat off a rival bid from Lockheed-Martin and Boeing.

Re: SeaKing disposals

It's the last watch for 'A Flight' 22 Sq at Chivenor tomorrow (Wednesday 30th Sept).

I shall greatly miss their occasional flights over the house to/from the HLS at Blackweir in Cardiff.

Many years of life saving work - and a magnificent sight and sound! Hey ho..... :(

Farewell.
