Stunning scenery. Some impressive highway engineering there too - until the forward planning ran out!

Wonderful shots, especially those of the osprey. Good to see that life in the Kingdom has its compensations. Stick with it!

Re: Avalon Airshow 2019 – request
Coasties is spot on with photo advice. Tip 1: Buy airshow ticket(s) online, then buy combined train/bus ticket(s) from Melbourne's Southern Cross station. Train takes you to Lara where you step off train straight into line for steady stream of shuttle buses direct to the show. Quick and efficient in...

Re: Friday morning walk
Nighthawke beat me to it - thank you for this and your earlier posts, it's always good to see some very different birds. Your local spring/oasis must be a magnet for them. Whereabouts in Saudi are you, roughly, and is it OK to wander around with a camera following what I imagine is a very unSaudlike...

Re: Avalon 2017
Thanks Supra. All the online references describe the CA=25 Winjeel as Australian-designed, with no mention of any read-across from the Piston Provost. However, the latter conformed to the RAF's preference at the time for side-by-side trainers, and perhaps that influenced RAAF thinking and led to a s...

Thanks for the comments fellas. Here are some more, mostly from the Sunday when the weather and light were less good. 14. Avalon 2017
A few shots from the Australian International Airshow, Avalon, taken on the morning of Saturday 4 March. The one runway at Avalon lies roughly North-South, spectators are to the east, and photography gets harder after midday as the sun swings to the west. Calling the event "International" may seem a...

Re: Avalon, 28.2.15 (large post)
Thanks Wombat. You are quite right of course, it is a CA-27 Sabre. I used to know that but I somehow forgot. It is a lovely aeroplane, and sad news about the ejector seat spares problem.

Avalon, 28.2.15 (large post)
This was my first time at Avalon but I will be a regular from now on, having moved from England to Australia 18 months ago. First impressions compared to my previous regular, Fairford, are: 1) The fence line is closer to the runway, giving better take-off and landing shots for the photographer, BUT ...

Re: RAAF Gingin, WA - 7.10.14
Great shots. May I ask if they were from outside the fence, or did you have privileged access? Reason for asking is that I'll be visiting Perth at the end of this month and hope to make a quick trip to RAAF Pearce and Gingin. Would much appreciate any tips on viewing and photo locations. Is photogra...

Re: RAAF Point Cook, 1-2 March 2014
Many thanks for the info, GW and StevenR. I hadn't heard of the CA-15. Googled it and found an interesting short account and photos on wiki. At first glance a P-51 lookalike, but its design bore no relation to the Mustang. I had a niggling doubt about the Cadet/Tutor id, but was posting late at nigh...

On to the WW2 part of the show: CAC Boomerang - Australia's only home-grown fighter aircraft, designed and built in 1942 as a stopgap pending delivery of other types. It was outclassed in air combat by its Japanese opponents, but served well as a ground attack aircraft. http://i358.photobucket.com/a...

RAAF Point Cook, 1-2 March 2014
The RAAF put on a display on 1-2 March to mark the centenary of the first military flight in Australia, made by a Bristol Boxkite at Point Cook on 1 March 1914. The flying programme ran chronologically, starting with short flights both days by a replica Boxkite, then progressing via the inter-war ye...
