Greek Independence Day Flypast 2025

I was fortunate to join the crowds of people on Mt Lycabettus last week to watch the annual independence day flypast over Athens. In all honesty, I wasn't expecting much, due to the city heathaze and expected height and distance of the flypast. How wrong I was! We were lucky that it was a cloudy mor...

Re: Exercise Iniochos 2025

I suspect not, and even then I don’t think anyone was out as it was Greek Independence Day with very little operational flying…and every man and his dog was in Athens for the flypast.

Re: Mic's 2024

My final trip of the year was the big one - a long planned honeymoon to Australia and New Zealand (via Taiwan). My very understanding wife was open to a few hours at Hualien as we passed through resulting in a spectacular night launch of 5 Mirage 2000s and 11 F16s. Difficult and challenging photogra...

Mic's 2024

Having been amazingly behind on editing, I thought I would peruse this year's massive backlog and pull out a small selection of shots from a hectic year. A small selection turned in to almost 50, when I realised I had been on far too many trips this year, but only 1 UK show. I hope you enjoy some pr...

Re: Canon RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1

Probably the 200-800, which is a little less sharp, but much longer range, especially for full frame. If I was starting now with an R5, I would probably go with the 200-800. I’m on an R7 with the 100-500 though and it’s superb. Hardly use my 300 2.8 mk2 any more as it’s so heavy and bulky!

Re: Miami Air Show 2024

Thanks for the lovely feedback :)

In terms of equipment, the majority were shot on an R7 and RF100-500, with some of the Sunday photos from the apartment using the 300 2.8 and 1.4tc. It was far too hot to be swinging a big prime about on the beach so the 100-500 came in to it’s own!

Miami Air Show 2024

I was fortunate that my brother has recently moved to Miami, so took advantage of the free accommodation to arrange my stag do to align with the Miami Airshow. Spent the first day on the beach, which was an amazing experience but very hot. Second day was shooting out of the window of my Brother's ap...

Very nice, but that B1 shot is something else!

I left early on the Sunday but very jealous of the sunny F15 with the shock cone too…it clouded over on the Saturday!

Re: Bucharest International Airshow (BIAS) 2024

Entrance is normally straight off the main road by the old terminal building. No permits required inside, but in the past they have done spotters passes which get you away from the scrum of the fence line and offer cool drinks and shade (which are a godsend!) I might be going again this year, so wil...

Re: Will Sunak Survive Until The Election

As a reminder we had a PR referendum back in 2011, the country voted against it. Ita amazing how many people seem to have forgotten it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_United_Kingdom_Alternative_Vote_referendum The 2011 referendum was on the alternative vote. Very much not on PR, although I su...

ZigAirMeet 23 from above

Anyone who follows me on social media will probably be fed up with how much I have been singing the praises of the ZigAirmeet over the last two weeks. I think I can comfortably say it was the most enjoyable airshow I've ever been to. Obviously a large part of that is the stunning setting at Mollis, ...

Misty Merlins on Dartmoor

Despite living in the South West for some reason I had never ventured down to Dartmoor for the annual Ten Tors event. This year I decided to rectify this and spent an enjoyable day watching the comings and goings of a pair of 845 NAS Jungly Merlins as they moved equipment up to the Tors. It started ...

Summer arrives at Cosby

Dare I say it, yesterday almost felt normal. A lovely late summer's day, with very few changes due to Covid and a stunning line up of warbirds. After being deafened by the battle I made my way to the north end of the site for 2 hours of flying that gave a small glimpse of what we've missed for the l...

Redlands Air Fest 19 - Day 1

Catching up on some airshow shots from this year, so here's a selection from 2 days spent at Redlands in California back in May. I haven't enjoyed an airshow so much for a long time! Great flying, interesting weather and a lovely small airfield for atmosphere.....oh and the amazing backdrop! Apologi...
