Re: Chivenor Air Day 1984 - A few more
From what I can remember the two Lightnings were the designated display pair that year and were recoded after. The BK = Binbrook?! Harrier XZ133 now hangs from the ceiling at Duxford. The sad thing is that the Phantom XT870 was the last aeroplane to be conventionally catapulted from a UK carrier and...

Re: 892 NAS Phantom at VL Air Day 1977 streaming chute in flight
The last 892 solo at an Air Day. We were invited onto the base the Sunday after the show before the Phantom was due to depart, and I got to sit in front seat which was pretty exciting for an 11 year old. I still remember thinking how far off the ground I was, and closely inspecting the German Navy F...

Thanks for your comments! No the Galaxy was a fly through. I think the Bucc XW547 is now in the RAF museum, makes me feel like a museum piece. Daz.

Chivenor Air Day 1984
Great summer weather and very relaxed for photography with good access to the flightline. The Hunter formation was in the air to mark the retirement of the type by 1TWU. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52293019064_574531c2a6_b.jpg XR501 Wessex HC.2 22sqn RAF https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/5...

Pure gold, thank you for taking the time to post these. These charismatic aeroplanes are so missed in these days of the F-35.

Yeovilton 1984 Part 2
It has been a while so I thought I'd post a few more. The Phantoms, Vulcan, VC10K and F-104G were all noted on the 12th September, not an Air Day, just a regular day with the VC-10 supporting the F-4s who were working with D-school. The Vulcan was visiting for a display somewhere. The Hunter was the...

Re: Yeovilton Air Days from Days Gone By..
I was sat in the grandstand when the aircraft went down on the Friday. It was on base leg turning finals when it stalled. The aircraft pitched up quite violently, the pilot ejected but the seat was out of parameters. I can still see mushroom pall that rose from impact just behind some trees situated...

Re: BBC - RAF Skywatch video - 1974
Amazing stuff..I remember watching this live at the time (I was 8!). Interested to know where this came from as have been trying to track down a copy. This and other great programmes from the era exist in the BBC archives still, it is such a shame that TV licence payers will never get to see them ag...

Re: Yeovilton 1984
You're right. It's a FAW.1 (XJ481) now with the Museum reserve collection. it spent all of it's life as a trials aircraft and was fitted with a non standard nose with a camera in it. Believe it now has a standard cone fitted. It wasn't active at the time of the photo.

Re: Yeovilton 1984
Thanks for your kind comments folks, I posted them for a bit of fun just to see if they interested anyone.I have dates as used to log the stuff I took, but they are in the loft somewhere..but where I know not. I was one of the die hards that used to spend hours by the fence when I should have been r...

Yeovilton 1984
By way of introduction I thought i'd post some of my first attempts at photography, at the then local. At that time there were no high fences and Yeovilton was a bit of a photographers paradise. Not the best scans, and on 100ASA print film, but the variety of based aircraft and visitors back then me...
