Re: RIP Johnnie Walker
I remember Johnnies "kiss in the car club" back in the 1960s on Radio Caroline. Kiss all the way through a record to get a sticker. Always one of my favorite DJ's in those long gone days. Played our kind of music. A very sad day for the music scene. Condolences from my wife of 54 years and myself (b...

Re: RAF Fairford construction - complete
I can't find any details on the CAA website about ACP-2022-083 since March of last year. How did they get from Stage 3 then, to Stage 6 now? Were they asked not to publish any more details by the USAF, or the MOD? What happened was that ACP-2022-078 originally covered both High Altitude (HALE) and ...

Re: RAF Fairford construction - complete
The Airspace Change Proposal has been approved and is now in stage 6 (implementation). Presumably this means getting the charts updated with the new danger areas and then released in the next issue. Did I see an RQ-4 is expected at RIAT? Maybe this will remain as the first of the deployment. Are the...

Re: RAF Fairford construction - complete
When do the drones arrive The latest version of the ACP (Airspace Change Proposal ACP-2021-078) for the drones gives an implementation date of June 2024(about one year late). The drones will normally operate between 20:00Z and 05:30Z and will climb out in a resticted danger area to the north west u...

Re: B-1 arrival
Max, No ALTRV is normally required for the crossing since they will be on their own after filling up over the US or Canada in the AR20 or AR80 tracks. ALTRVs are only required for non-standard activities such as flight refuelling. Best to keep an eye on AR20 and AR80 to see any traffic heading this ...

Re: Fairford Construction thread
As I said in the deleted thread the primary reason for the new hangars can be found if you google ACP-2021-078.
There should be plenty of space for other uses though.
Should be an interesting time from spring 2023

RPAS (Drone) Activity to Start in Spring 2023
Just been trawling through the CAA Airspace Change Proposal site regarding Fairford drone ops. Key points are (1)Drone ops will begin in spring 2023 (2) typically 3 flights per week (3) most flights between sunset and sunrise. The new hangars should be ready by then to keep them hidden from from vie...

Re: NOTAM RAF Northolt
It's the standard NOTAM for a high-ranking royal arrival or departure.
You will see them quite frequently for Northolt.
Since the airfield is notammed closed until 4th Jan for routine visitors there is unlikely to any conflict with anybody.

Re: Proposed Airspace change to accommodate RPAS operations
Now we know what the new "Multi Purpose Hangars" are to be used for.
It usually takes a few years to get an airspace change through the system so this will probably tie-up with the hangars being ready.
RQ-180s will make a change from U-2s

Re: Update on Fairford
The fuel pipeline was completely renewed back in the 1970s/1980s as part of the upgrade for the 11th SG tankers. The pipeline also supplies Brize, so I am sure it must be up to standard. All the bulk fuel stores were also completely renewed/rebuilt and expanded as part of the major upgrade in the 20...

Re: Press Conference 19th March
Don't forget the Bombers often top-up their fuel before crossing the pond in the AR-20NE track over Nova Scotia.
It should be possible to see when AR-20NE is active to give an idea about arrivals.
Dave (was 4 miles 09 finals at FFD) now 20 miles northwest and probably won't see a thing!

Re: More bombers heading to Fairford
The first I heard about reactivation of the base was last christmas on an annual visit to friends living in Fairford. They were certain that the Americans were coming back permanently in the next few months. I thought they had heard about the RC135 basing rumors (at that time) and put two and two to...
