Presently? Spend 3 to 4 hours planning, two hour pre-flighting then think "aww, oh fudge it, that's the interesting bit over so I can't be bothered flying" and close FSX. Not bad, just spent £750 on a new PC to run FSX and I don't use it!

Snap!

Same with Test Drive went out and got a steering wheel.. think I've played it twice since I spent £80 on the wheel

Only seem to play BF3 and BFBC2 these days.

When I am on FSX, I'm doing Helo stuff around the place.. and trying very slowly to do my own model.

What does your planning and pre-flighting involve chris?

Im an avid Flt Sim fan and fly lots of different aircraft.

I fly the A10 for the Indiana ANG, try to do my 8 flights a month, also fly for Air Tran, flying the B717 around the USA and to Mexico and the Carribean. I fly the KC135 basing myself out of McConnel in Kansas, ummm what else, oh aye fly the Tornado GR4, flown with 617/9/2 and now with 31 Sqdn, the Super Etendard based at Landivisau and also doing carrier operations around the world. Just downloaded the Iris F15E which is superb, when you start the engines, you could swear you were at Lakenheath, the sounds are so authentic, as you can see im bit obsessed but hey it keeps me out of trouble lol. :-)

I fly helicopters using my own scenery of Salisbury Plain and the VFR Horizon scenery. Including FARPs, Ops areas and confined areas in woods. I do the same in the Netherlands at the GLV Areas.
I did used to spend hours upon hours making my own scenery and also flight plans for stuff like C130s landing at Deptford down and helicopters going into certain areas. (That was for FS9).

But now i fly on my own, practice, practice etc but get bored very quickly with FlightSim so i turn it off.
Have tried other sims, but again, the interest isn't there for me at the moment until they develop something realistic and in current operations (which will be a long time).
I also spend time doing practice visual approaches in different fixed wing (usually large types).

I did used to do full flight plans to medium to long haul destinations or Global Power with bombers but i just haven't the time anymore. Have a family and so spending hours on end on the puter isn't viable.

Lately been flying Naval aircraft as our small contest is based on this theme this month http://tinyurl.com/avcontest

But when not taking some snaps for the contest I can be mainly found flying around La Reunion or New Zealand

Mainly Hawks and other military trainers around the Mach Loop, and Tutors around Dorset, as I have VFR Real Scenery. I ALWAYS start at Yeovilton, and generally just circuit bash. I have created some scenery for the outside, spotters, trees, etc. :thumb:

Sorry, just saw this.

For a short/medium-range IFR flight (usually an airline scheduled flight or similar);
  • Check departure/arrival METARs and TAFs
  • Check en-route weather and SIGMETs
  • Check aerodrome and en-route NOTAMS
  • Plan routing, comparing en-route (ENR) charts with standard routing documents, CDR/RAD from Eurocontrol or other agencies as appropriate
  • Looks for en-route alternates suitable, find charts and scenery
  • Plan fuel, payload and similar
Long-range flights, usually across the Atlantic, include all of the above as well as ETOPS requirements if appropriate, checking SLOPs and required routings and levels, NATs, and NOTAMs.

An Atlantic crossing can take me 3 hours to plan and pre-flight, depending on where I'm going and what I'm flying. It's a bit less in a 747 as there isn't the ETOPS requirement.
