Scampton's last Hurrar

Post by reaper493 » Mon Sep 05, 2022 7:40 am

It's been reported on a few Facebook sites that there is an event at Scampton today for the Reds.

The event is a closing ceremony, which will include a Flypast and the final full display by the Reds, although I'm led to believe only 5 returned yesterday?

Rumours that the Lanc is also due.

"Final full display"......are they not using Scampton airspace when they move to Waddo?

Don't think so, there's half a dozen proposals to use Waddo airspace, plus Syerston and Donna.

This is a final display, not a final practice.

Only 6 Arrows in the formation - disappointing.

Which is better than the 4 that flew in the distance from Old Warden yesterday having elected to not perform their scheduled fly past due to the "weather"......

You just wonder whether they will ever return to a 9-ship (or even survive into next year) with an aircraft that is end of life and nowhere else in service other than the Reds, if they can't even muster a 7-ship nowadays.

Any sign of ACM Sir Micheal Wigston at the closing of possibly the most iconic existing RAF Station ?
Forces.net reported that the salute was taken by AVM Surya Marshall, OC 2 Group
Co-incidence or a message being sent by the CAS.....?

A very sad day and a poor 'commemoration' for such a historic place. Been nice if they could have held a small open day but that's asking for too much these days.
As a side note...any ideas where the HHA Hunters will be moving to? Wishful thinking I know but would be nice to see them at Waddo too 😁

Been a couple posts on various Facebook groups saying the airworthy HHA Hunters will move to, and operate out of a HAS at RAF Leeming

So the rumours suggesting that Wigston wasn't going because he didn't want to be associated with negatively and bad news appear to be true. What an utter disgrace.

The Reds fall under OC 2 Group, so makes perfect sense why she was there.

Reds come under 1 Group together with the Lightning, / Typhoon Forces and ISTAR assets according to the RAF website. The 1 Group badge is carried on the aircraft.

Ah yes, I've got confused anyway, they used to come under 22 group, not 2 group.
