London Christmas Lights ~ 2021 *UPDATE 3*

Post by Pen Pusher » Sun Nov 21, 2021 10:15 am

The Christmas street lights and markets are back on in London although some lights aren't officially switched on until December. About the only changes from previous years are hanging stars instead of snowballs/display boards in Oxford Street and Carnaby Street has an infestation of 600 shimmering psychedelic butterflies as part of a collaboration with the refugee charity Choose Love.

Beautiful shots Pen Pusher. Thanks for adding your settings, us lesser mortals can try to apply the technique locally. 👍

100% agree, and there is the problem if I could buy the same kit could try and get shots as nice and crisp as these but 100% unlikely. Great Shots always love looking at your offerings around London.

It's not that difficult, but then again I've had lots pf practice. :D When I started out I used the standard rule of thumb that the shutter speed equals the focal length of the lens. i.e. 24mm lens = 1/24th second. Over the years I gradually dropped the shutter speed and now with 5-axis stabilisation, I can hand hold down to about 1/2 second.

Now you are showing off. ;) Keep them coming, worth logging on just for these and forget the aircraft.

Kings Cross ~ Coal Drops Yard - Lewis Cubitt Square - West Handyside Canopy

Coal Drops Yard
Wasn’t sure about the 28ft tall Christmas Tree in Coal Drops Yard until I got inside and then the changing psychedelic colours and movement of the strip lights reflecting off the angled mirrors gave the impression of being in the opening titles of Doctor Who.

(The canopy roof was constructed in 1888 to provide a covered area for unloading of fish and other perishable goods. The goods were unloaded from railway carriages for distribution around London)

Another very nice set I like the lack of people, doubt the patrons of Covent garden do though,

Top quality pictures

I knew these would be good. The depth of colour and depth of field really makes for a stunning result

Great shots! Makes me miss living there!

I used to love Regent Street at Christmas!

Are these shots HDR?
