My father and I are thinking of going to Holbeach today, when I called last week they said there was some activity planned for today, do you have any idea of what and when would be a good time.

As per the NOTAM directly above your post the range is closed until 11am
Aircraft do often use the range airspace when it's shut, most commonly Typhoons.

As for activity I'm not sure, there are no other NOTAMs out at the moment.
