Jolly 11/12 flight of 2 HH-60 from Leeming, weather unreal on the Sike as always with 30 kt winds and a touch of sleet then bright sunshine and heavy rain. Left just before the Belgian 16's arrived (wouldnt have seen them as they stayed above 15k and were only on range for a few runs 13:30) BAF512? flight of 3 (split into a pair and single one to east other two to North)

~Postions for threats were...
A504 and P211 Prior Lancy
A202 and A208 Berry hill
A308,P211,P208 and P203 at Greymare West.

You beat me to it Steve, yes the 'Jolly's ' were back again today for the third day running. Jolly 11&12 on the range from 11:00-12:00L. After lunch the 4 x Belgium F16s arrived, call sign BAF251 flight.

Rumoured but not gospel to be BAF251-FA68, BAF252-FA84, BAF253-FA133 & BAF254 U/K. On the range from 13:30-14:00 then departed direct MAM.

Next up was Ascot 102 (ZH871 from box), who made several runs on the R208. The weather being pretty rubbish, few at 2,200ft broken at 2,600ft. Wind was 25 gusting 36kts. Departed to the South at 14:38.

14:50 and the return of HH60G Pavehawk 'Jolly32' who landed at R7 helipad to drop PAX. Lots of comms about weather, wind speed and the likelihood of thunder storms which were forecast.
Around 30 mins later it took off and made several runs against the threats Steve listed.

We believe these are the 3 HH60G's based at Leeming this week, due to fly to Lossiemouth for the start of JW161.

If anyone wants to alter anything feel free.

Regards to all,
Geoff

Confirmation by Alan at Leeming that 3 x HH60Gs parked up there. These will be the 3 that left Lakenheath on Monday.

I visited Carlisle Airport today and caught two interesting visitors a Merlin coded S its callsign was Hades 3 the other was a H.M.Coast Guard Helicopter G. MCGJ which had also called in for fuel. Later in the afternoon the Merlin was flying around Butterburn Flow over Spy Rigg I managed to video the Merlin as it was flying within the banks of the river near to Lampert. Merlin reg was ZJ 134.

It was nice to meet up with Chris (Catkins) and Danny (Toom 317)

These are the type of aircraft utilising both Otterburn & Spadeadams airspace, on previous occasions when the A 10s have been in theatre
they commence tourist flying over the Lakes and the ranges involved within a couple of days.

If it stays as just talk about the above Ranges then that's fine in my eyes.

Warning about possible road closure on Spadeadam Range, I went to Wiley Syke yesterday the 13th, July, 2013. there is a rumour that the road to Wiley Syke may be closed when at certain times ground forces are in evidence. Yesterday was very busy with Hogs, Pilgrims, Fox 15s, Tiffies and hawks and an Islander
.
A JTAC was operating further into the range vicinity of Grey Mare Hill with 2 Army Lynx. If the JTAC moves to Wiley Syke that is when the road may be closed.

Stewart ( Durranhill) is going to file a complete log of Wednesday movements later.

Weather Update Today Thursday 14th, sunny periods all day. Friday light rain. so todays the day. Happy Hog hunting. Frank.

Hi Frank , sorry I did not bother with a wed log as apart from the excellent 2 x A-10 display in good weather in the morning there was nothing much to note in the afternoon as everybody knows how crap the weather ( absolutely p****ng down ) can get up in Spade .

Hi Stewart, Yes it certainly rained on the 14th, July now here is a happy thought today Friday the 15th, July is St Swithin's Day and legend has it that if it rains on St Swithin's Day it may rain for forty days. Frank. PS Did The A 10s return in multiples as they promised on Thursday.

Checked the Cumbria Council pages and can't find anything about road closure at Spade.
