Re: TAC Blaze 2016
For anyone thats interested.2 chinooks have just flown over my house heading in the direction of the airport.Unsure as to whether they were Dutch or RAF as had no bino's on me at the time.Have to say I was surprised.I thought I heard them heading out about 25 minutes ago but thought I must be hearing things and then I see them returning.

Re: TAC Blaze 2016
I'd been listening to the Grizzly's on the scanner going to Spade & back to Carlisle then out again this morning with sometimes only about 30-45 min between trips which seemed strange compared to the usual 1.5-2 hrs.
Called round about 15.15 to find Chinooks D-102/667 + 2 Cougars & 2 Apaches out in Spade , on listening to them in Spade they were using the Callsigns Sabre 1 - 6 , 1&2 for the Apaches , 3 & 4 for the Cougars + 5 & 6 for the Chinooks .
Approx 15.55 Sabres 3 & 4 called up to sat they were inbound for 07 & landed troops on the grass underslung load area between the pan & the viewing area on the corner of the road , I heard Sabre 3 say he was unable to collect all the packs & troops on his own so later 3 & 4 dep back to Spade .
Sabre 5 & 6 inbound 25 to Carlisle , they landed & dropped off at least 1 Merc G wagon before going back to Spade .
16.41 - Sabre combine (5 &6) inbound to land , not sure what they dropped off but they dep back to Spade at 16.46 .
16.49 - Sabre 3 & 4 inbound from the North then 07 with underslung vehicles which they dropped off on the grass load area, they dep back to Spade at 17.02.
17.20 - Sabre flight (all 6 ) inbound 07 to land , they all came in left base for 07 with the Cougars leading followed by the Chinooks & the Apaches .
17.30 - Time for me to go home with all of Sabre flight on the ground discharging troops & starting to shut down .
19.20 - Redskin 1 req start up from the tower for a 30 min sortie .

Re: TAC Blaze 2016
Sounds like previous years in as much as this is the wind down phase of the ex kicking in with pilots training on underslung loads and killing 2 birds with 1 stone to get all their kit back to the airport for the endex.Always good to see though.
Re: TAC Blaze 2016
Just want to say a quick thank you for the hospitality today, a fantastic wee trip down from Fife - see you next year!

Re: TAC Blaze 2016
Even though it's winding down they took a lot of gear & men into Spade this morning which was why I think the sortie times were short initally + with no RAF or anybody else to bother them they had the whole range to themselves & could get things done instead of getting kicked off early .
When I arrived in the afternoon I noticed that the large dipole aerial has been taken down & the hot refuelling gear has gone so they are starting to wind down .

£64k question is will they route back down south via Benson etc or go across via Mildenhall?

Going back to the 30th I'm guessing it was the Klu CH-47 which came down from Kirkstone Pass towards Ambledel then turned towards Rydal while I was car-booting on the Rugby field, before 0900Z?
Re: TAC Blaze 2016
Tuesday 31st, May, 2016, what a Finale the Dutch Helicopters put on today. I only went up to Spadeadam on the off chance because I surmised that as they had the range to themselves yesterday that today may have been a bit of a damp squid, but not a bit of it Yhere was action with the Apaches, the Chinooks and the Cougars.
For a change I positioned myself just above Lampert and was treated to some superb low flying. I had managed to miss the Cougars on my previous visits but was
happy to see that one Cougar was finishing the deployment having the range to themselves from 14,00 to 15.00.
Waiting in the wings was an RAF Chinook that was on the range for over 90 minutes from 15,00. initially the Chinook operated south of the range at medium level
eventually dropped down to low level especially around Wiley Syke and later in the vicinity of Berry Hill where the Pilot put on a mini display which begs the question was this the Chinook Display Pilot as he threw the aircraft around the skies.
No callsigns because my radio failed

Re: TAC Blaze 2016
Hi Frank ,
Sounds like you had a good day up in Spade today , callsign wise I didn't hear much on the scanner at work - Wildcat , Sabre 1/2 & 3 with 3 working on his own with SKYRAY for at least 30 min ,also heard Redskin early on & just before dinner I heard Grizzly 1 & 2 dep Carlisle for Spade while Grizzly 91 returned to Carlisle from the south .
I really should make the effort to get up there when these Ex's are on rather than taking the easy option & sitting at Carlisle all day & missing the action in Spade , don't know if this is true but I was told last week that the Dutch have booked up for the same 3 weeks next year .
All being well I'll have the scanner on in the morning & hear them dep as they normally get airborne between 8-9 .

Departed and just seen over Hexham, probably going usual route over Leeming, Linton and refuel at Mildenhall or Marham at a guess.
Re: TAC Blaze 2016
Four Apaches over Stalybridge heading southbound. Interesting route!
