Sorry to be a numpty but what does TAC stand for?

I only ask because at Odiham you often hear a Chinook carrying an underslung load cleared to land/depart from the TAC park.

Mark, I doubt it. I've never known them to fly, except once for an airtest. It's been a couple of years since I've done a Tac Blaze though. I keep hoping for weekend flying on Otterburn, but it hasn't happened yet.

Hi all,

Yeah not too sure on the weekend flying either.I can never remember it happening.
Drove round by the airport today and by 1230 there was at least 35 dutch shipping containers already there and I passed another 8 on route to the airport from the Carlisle direction. Not much else set up there yet but looks like they have plenty of equipment on the move.

fingers crossed

A reference to last years TAC Blaze 2015 should give an insight as to when operations start. Frank.

Otterburn timetable for next week, all this week its been "non firing", looking at it would suggest possibly Tue/thursday evening for the dutch but thats speculation (just based on the times..)

Otterburn has been shut for a month for the lambing. Shut every year from 15 April-15 May. I've gone on spec in previous years and never caught them there, but I do know they've been in there, the ground troops definitely have. If I remember correctly Tuesday and Thursday on the range are usually the night time firing slots.

First helicopters due early afternoon. Flying most likely will start on Monday morning. Would expect them to use Spadeadam each day from then with multiple sorties. Usually there are under slung load movements within the airport boundary and occasionally the odd vehicle or two carried into the range.

Compound looks pretty much set up this evening with comms masts being erected and vehicles lined up.

Should be 4 x AH-64D's, reported as Q-01/05/08/30. As ever, those need checking when they arrive!

Two items of news the second Chinook D 892 landed at Carlisle at approx 17.50 this afternoon (17th) 2 Cougars are due tomorrow callsign Demon.

Today I was accompanied by Peter one of the newer Warton enthusiasts. He was impressed to see the 4 AH 64s parked up on the ramp with no

fences or wire netting obstructing the view.

After leaving Carlisle we eventually arrived at Wiley Syke and met up with Alan of LFA 17 fame. we watched the Chinook and Apaches doing EW

work to the east and around Berry Hill.

A few years ago one of Alans friends posted a video of a Harrier flying low over Wiley Syke that particular video went viral, this afternoon Redskin 41

Formation (2 AH 64s) flew one of the lowest flybys ever seen at Wiley Syke and although not on video Alan captured numerous frames of each individual

Apache as it completely filled his camera screen he will be posting them on twitter as well as his own cite.

It was pleasant to meet up with Stewart ( Durranhill) thanks again for yesterdays factual report.

A quieter day today as I arrived late at 10.15 , D-667 Sabre 3 & Redskin 53 both out in Spade , they arrived back at approx 10.45 .
12.25 - Sabre 2 req start up & dep to Spade at 12.45 .
12.32 - Redskin 41 formation req start up & dep to Spade at 12.52 .
14.30 - Redskin 41 formation called up Carlisle tower to say they were inbound to the re-fuel area which has been set up at the end of the taxiway opp ECR car transporters .
14.44 - Sabre 2 inbound from Spade to land & shut down
15.05 - Redskin 41 formation changed their callsign to 55 after re-fuelling & dep to Spade .
15.36 - Redskin 55 formation dep the range early as 56 had a tech fault & they both arrived down 25 with 56 landing & 55 hovering at the 19/25 intersection before he dep back to Spade at 15.45 .
D-667 was having work carried out + a number of the service crew were carrying Red briefcase size cases which I think may contain counter measures/flares for loading on the Chinook , anybody any ideas on this ?? .
As I left at 16.30 D-892 Grizzly 35 had dep Odiham for his flight up to Carlisle & the 2 Cougars are due in tomorrow afternoon .

Called up at Spadeadam this morning at 9.30 & for a change the weather was better than Carlisle , nothing moved until 10.30 when Hades 3 a Merlin entered the range from the south but he kept his distance from us & spent most of his time in the North & East of the range before heading south again.

12.05 - Redskin 51 formation entered the range from the west got to the cattle grid & turned right down the gorge & round the back never to be seen again before they dep back to Carlisle about 13.45 .
12.35 - Sabre 3 entered the range but never came close to us .
I headed back to Carlisle as the Apaches were leaving & arrived there at 14.08 just in time to catch Sabre 3 D-667 inbound for 25 then land & shut down .
14.27 - Demon 2 x Cougars called up with 15 miles to go & they landed at 14.38 .
16.30 - Left for home with 8 Helicopters on the ground .

20.20 - Arrived back at Carlisle to find 1 Apache out & grey Chinook D-892 being worked on .
20.40 - APU's started on 2 Apaches , they started engines & dep to Spade at 21.20 as Redskin 53 formation , I think Spade was closed but Carlisle tower was stopping open & he called them up at 23.05 & they landed back at 23.15 .
