Merlin back at Manorbier
Re: Puma and Merlin at Manorbier
Saw a pair of Merlins heading into Castlemartin around 4.00pm and also a pair of Puma around 5.30.
The were also a pair of merlins operating out of Pembrey today.
This morning one merlin was operating with a 100sqn Hawk on fighter evasion.

Re: Puma and Merlin at Manorbier
A training exercise for members of the Armed Forces has begun in earnest in Pembrokeshire, Wales.
The exercise aims to test the contingency capabilities of the Armed Forces, specifically their ability to support helicopter operations in unknown and potentially dangerous environments. Based at Merrion Camp in Castlemartin, Pembrokeshire, over 150 personnel have been simulating a humanitarian mission. Wing Commander Colin West explained the purpose of the exercise:
“Exercise Agile Spear is a training event for a deployable headquarters from RAF Benson, which is on readiness to deploy worldwide to support disaster relief operations, such as earthquakes, or to evacuate UK citizens from areas of conflict. The exercise ensures that the headquarters and the supporting elements are suitably qualified and experienced to carry out their roles.”
The exercise training audience involves a broad spectrum of units including the Aviation Task Force Headquarters from RAF Benson, Tactical Supply Wing from RAF Stafford, 244 Signals Squadron from Coventry, the Joint Helicopter Support Squadron from RAF Odiham, Nymegan Company Grenadier Guards, 132 Logistics Support Squadron of 7 Battalion REME and 3 Mobile Catering Squadron from RAF Wittering. Also supporting the exercise and obtaining their own training requirements are various support helicopters: Merlin and Puma 2 from RAF Benson, Lynx from Dishforth and Chinook from RAF Odiham.
The exercise continues until Friday.
