Newark Air Museum News 2022
It’s time to start a 2022 Newark Air Museum News thread, through which I will endeavour to keep people advised of the day to day activities at NAM.
Again on behalf of everyone at Newark Air Museum I would just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who visited in 2020 and supported the museum during a challenging year.
Details will continue to be added both here and to the – Latest News Page on the NAM website.
We're open today and into the new year, but please be aware that we have a reduced café menu at the moment: http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/Reduced_Menu_2022

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2022
Happy New Year T1 - we already have a 2022 Events thread running: viewtopic.php?f=130&t=211657
Just no updates so far to add to what is on there and in this part of our website http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/2022_Special-Events
We're still holding fire on any Nightshoot date and also the Aeroboot, which looks set to remain outside - current café situation highlights how precarious arranging events is for us at the moment!

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2022
On our first 'real' day back in 2022 with lots of museum working members on site they've been moving exhibits around in Hangar1 in preparation for a busy 2022 on the restoration front - check out the new Gallery!
http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/2022_Work_Gallery
Some items have gone back into store thereby creating better locations for planned restoration work; plus a juggle around with some loaned items!

HEADS-UP - due to the weather warnings related to Storm Eunice we have taken the difficult decision that the museum will be closed on Friday 18th February, 2022. Further updates will follow as required!

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2022
We've had lots of enthusiasts divert to visit us today due to many weather related base closures elsewhere, but please remember that on Friday 18th February 2022 we will be closed due to the weather warnings related to Storm Eunice!
Hopefully back open on Saturday!!

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2022
Everything has been tethered as best we can and the phrase "... turn into wind!" was being uttered quite a lot today.
Sadly, we already had some damage to Puma XW208, which reinforces why we have decided to close!

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2022
The wings on XP226 have been down for many years (25+) - some former volunteers were forever cycling the mechanisms and got them stuck as they are; we've never had the inclination, or need to sort out the problem!
Re: Newark Air Museum News 2022
So they are currently down? Im confused as ive been to nam many times and honestly dont recall seeing the gannet with wings down.NAM Updater wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 5:55 pmThe wings on XP226 have been down for many years (25+) - some former volunteers were forever cycling the mechanisms and got them stuck as they are; we've never had the inclination, or need to sort out the problem!

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2022
Yes, they're down and by my reckoning have been since the late 1980s - they were folded when MARTSU delivered it November 1983; I witnessed their team hand pump them down on delivery day, but I have never photographed XP226 with its wings folded since that day.
The volunteers cycled them through the folding sequence and did the damage between that time and circa 1988. Folding them would have made it easier to display it in Hangar 2, but that was never achieved.
Don't worry about not noticing things, I'm on site multiple times a week and I'm always seeing new things that I've never noticed before.

Daz, I don't have a photo hosting account so I cannot post pictures; the best I can offer is a link to a tweet on the museum's Twitter timeline, where some photos have been uploaded!
