Daily Log-in

Post by Finger4 » Mon Oct 12, 2009 3:33 pm

Hi guys,
For what its worth.
Unlike the previous forum, I find that I have to log-in each day even though I keep ticking the remember my details box. If I access FC several times during the same day, I dont need to re log in but do the next day. This is no great hardship but can be a little annoying at times.

What URL are you using to view FC?

Thanks,

I had this problem. The only way I could fix it in the end was by deleting cookies and temporary internet files. The downside of doing this is that you'll lose all your auto-logins on all the various sites you go to so that's kinda annoying, but once I logged back in to the various sites and forums I go to, it would then always remember my details, including this site.

Gents I appreciate that this must be frustrating, but can you confirm that you are using www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum not the old www.fighter-control.com url please? Also out of interest what internet browser are you using? (IE, firefox etc) the more info we have the more likely we can solve it. thanks :)

Okay, can you all confirm whether you are all using the AOL software? - If this is the case, it's because the AOL software uses a Proxy to connect to the internet, meaning various IP's are used for your sessions.

It's something that might be fixable at our end, but I'll need confirmation the problem is just for AOL software users, so I know that is the problem.

The old forum was running a custom version of phpBB2, we're now running a standard version of phpBB3. I'll look into it.

I have this problem every day also.
No matter if i use AOL integrated IE7, external IE7 and IE8 or Firefox.... i still have to log in everyday.
No matter what URL i use also.

This happened with the old forum (phpBB2) and it happens everyday with UKAR also.

But it never happens to any other forum i am a member of (only FC and UKAR)

Hi chris in answer to your question yes i do tick the box everytime i log in, but it makes no differance. some days i only have to log in the once & other days i have to log in every time i visit ,then other days as today its been a mixture of the two. I know its not a major problem but its just getting to be a bit frustrating now. Thanx for trying to help. MICK

The only reason I can pinpoint for this happening is that you're all AOL software users. The AOL software uses multiple proxies to connect to the web, if you don't connect using the same proxy as you last logged in using then it won't auto log you in (Auto Login is server side on our forum, not client side, so you're details need to match).

I've looked into solutions and I'm afraid I can't see anything we can implement to help the situation.

The only thing I can suggest is that those of you having problems with the auto login using the AOL software attempt using IE, Firefox or Safari to view the forum for a few days, see if that solves your problem.

Cheers,
Mike

What I'm implying is that the server compares the details stored in the cookie with the details stored on our server, if they're not the same, then it doesn't log in. But yes, details are stored client side too.

Gazza,
If you're using AOL, ring them up and ask if they can fix an IP address to your account, hopefully this will allow the cookies to keep you logged in.

Sometimes they say yes, sometimes they don't, it's luck of the draw I think!

If you're using the AOL Software getting a static IP will not work, it's the AOL software that uses multiple proxies, regardless of what your IP is.

If you were to use Internet Explorer/Firefox/Safari, you wouldn't get this problem, as providing you do not disconnect your modem/router, your IP would remain the same and it would automaticly log you in.
