Re: log in
This is due to accessing the site at HTTP rather than HTTPS. Over the last year, various browsers have changed the way they report sites as secure hence why you now see the message.
HTTPS is enabled on FC - https://www.fightercontrol.co.uk but there are a couple of minor bugs i need to tidy up before switching the site over fully. Hopefully resolved soon....

Re: log in
Infact, have just quickly fixed those issues and put a redirect in place. Should have solved this
Re: log in
Thanks for all your work on this problem. Unfortunately it seems still not working from my usual PC.

Re: log in
In what way? Should be no way of accessing the site via HTTP now so if still seeing issues will need more details of errors seen etc
Re: log in
Must say I am fed up with not being able to get logged in this seems to be a new phenomana
Re: log in
It's a scary thought, but there are still people out there using Windows XP, and more pertinently, its version of Internet Explorer. The latter is not SNI capable, and therefore does not work with many HTTPS sites. Using a different browser will probably fix it (Firefox, Chrome etc.). However, Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, and hence has many unpatched security vulnerabilities. XP users should upgrade to at least Windows 7 (which has a cost) or switch to Linux (which is free).
Re: log in
It must have taken me a month to realise this when I upgraded Threshold.aero's certificate; in the end we had to make the decision that those on XP just wouldn't be able to access the website.

In what way? You must have been logged in to post that so if you are having issues i’m going to need more details.

Re: log in
Not just people, but quite a high number of large enterprises as well. Many have simply fallen so far behind they simply don’t have the money or resources to upgrade due to the impact.

Forwarding this message that was posted on MSF yesterday:-

Subject: [MSF] Fighter Control - a request
Evening All,
I'm having the same trouble as Barry; I can't get on FC either.
I realise the problem is related to my OS (Windows XP) & choice of browser
(Google Chrome) but there are plenty of other HTTPS sites that my PC has no
problem with (Facebook,BBC etc,etc)
Could some kind soul please put a post on Fighter Control on our behalf to
relay the problem?
Many thanks in advance,
Jon

Re: log in
I've done some testing with a sacrificial virtual machine running Windows XP, fully updated and with the latest supported versions of Chrome and Firefox (both are old compared to the latest versions on more modern versions of Windows and other operating systems). This is what I have found:
Obviously other, less used, browsers are available (Opera etc.), but I didn't bother to test those, especially as Firefox works.
As I hinted in my earlier post, I strongly urge all Windows XP users to upgrade to Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 as soon as possible (or switch to Linux, which is free). This is because XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, and therefore has security vulnerabilities which will never be fixed. This means your data, your Internet banking transactions and everything else you use your PC for are potentially exposed to bad guys.
I will post this to MSF. Feel free to post it anywhere else people are discussing issues with accessing FC.
- Internet Explorer: cannot view FC (probably due to SNI not being supported by the old version of IE in XP)
- Google Chrome: cannot view FC (probably due to a cipher suite incompatibility in the old version of Chrome that is the latest that can be installed on XP)
- Mozilla Firefox: can view FC

Thanks to Nick for taking the time to provide a solution for those experiencing issues.
Re: log in
Thank you for the update, viewing now via Firefox rather than my usual choice of Chrome.

Zymurgy661 - unfortunatley I don't think the above is the whole story. I too have been denied access to FC (& CA) since mid January on my desktop running XP with Chrome. However I found a few days ago that I can access FC from the same PC with XP + IE, so I am happy. Of course those who can't log on can't let you know which combinations of o/s and internet browser do not work!
EGVP - I can still access Threshold.aero with XP + Chrome, unless it is only the members area you have disabled to XP users.
NickC - not all of us have £100 or more to spare on an upgrade from XP, and some may not have sufficient resources on our existing PCs to run e.g. Wndows 10 anyway (I do, but only by the skin of my teeth, which worries me that I will loose other aspects of performance if 10 is using all the resources).
Can I add that this is in no way a criticism of anyone, I fully appreciate all the efforts that those behind the scenes at FC/CA put in to bring us an excellent board, full of relevant and timely information and to all the other contributors like EGVP and NickC who always make helpful contributions. Simply, without you all, it wouldn't happen - thank you to you all.

Zymurg661,
Another permutation to add to the mix of what works - FC/CA log on works fine for me from my laptop, using Windows7 and Chrome.
