Just been looking at some of the sections ie the overseas ones etc. Should we scale them back?
For example the US keep the main section but delete all subsections. If anyone uses the section just ask users to title the thread properly.
Any other ideas from anyone

Re: Forum overhaul
Is FC trying to be too much? Should it be more focused? I think so...
Therefore, I'd say remove:
Fairford Bomber Deployment 2021 section - unless you know something we don't!
HF and UHF SATCOM monitoring - reports are posted in Heads Up, and questions are covered in Radio Equipment Centre
All other areas around the UK from spotters area - and post relevant posts in the geographical sections
RAF and RN Weapon Ranges - reports are posted in Heads Up, NOTMAs are posted in the NOTAM section
You've also got sections which are really sparsely used (Low Level Photography, European Airshows, Rest of the World Airshows, etc.) that could probably be folded in to others.
I'd also say move the milair monitoring section up from the sixth section down in the list! It used to be right at the top, then it was overtaken by the photography section and ever since has slowly slid down the page. It looks unimportant now.

Re: Forum overhaul
I've moved Heads up back up, it always used to be further up in the past but most of the staff were photographers rather than the monitoring side of the hobby so it kept getting relegated.

burn any sub forum over a year old...
Merge all the radio and frequency forums.... they're rarely used and even questions asked in them don't get much attention

Re: Forum overhaul
Delete any topic that has not been used since 2020.
Maintain the Airfield logs section but instead of having each topic then sub-divided into even smaller ones, put in the topic heading which airfields should be included as posts.
As has already been said remove Fairford bomber visits, they can be accommodated elsewhere.
Don't do the alterations piecemeal wait until a final decision has been made for them all.

Re: Forum overhaul
I'd say keep old threads for archive reasons.
Re: Forum overhaul
The bomber deployment section has been removed temporarily, it will be back as it makes the staffs job easier trying to control the excitement.
Job today will be scalling back the lesser used sections

Re: Forum overhaul
As much as I hate to say it, the LL photography section is hardly used these days and could probably be merged with current military photography.

Re: Forum overhaul
Gary, I've mentioned this to you before, but how do members that have locked themselves out of their accounts get in touch with an active member of Admin to reactivate their account/reset password etc.?
I've noticed loads of active members having new accounts created over the years when it's not been necessary, has any member of staff ever been given access to the Admin email account that is connected to the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of every page?

Re: Forum overhaul
It would appear as part of the Forum reshuffle, that RAF Valley and Mona and MOD St Athan have moved to East Anglia.

That will save some of us a long drive
Re: Forum overhaul
Something strange going on, none of the airfield sections have been touched. Yet a few sections have moved. Just been into admin area. Valley is still listed in the West and Wales section yet showing in the East Anglia area

Re: Forum overhaul
The Northeast England Subforums could now quite easily be reduced to just RAF Leeming with possibly the addition of Teesside Airport for its use by Draken for their Falcon operations ?

Re: Forum overhaul
Have to agree there are many sub-sections that remain unused for in excess of 12 months.

Re: Forum overhaul
Hi Gary great work on overhauling the forum. There is still that issue with the shuttleworth airshow section where users cannot post topics. I think this could be something to do with the permissions that users are granted within the shuttleworth section?

Re: Forum overhaul
I'll have a look.
I've messaged Adam hopefully something will be sorted in the near future. East Aglia has some completely nuts tonight. No ideas why it's showing all over the place. When looking in the staff area. Everything is in the correct place

Re: Forum overhaul
The Southern England section doesn't show any of the airfields but the link under the title finds them. They show as under Europe in the link but are not visible.

Re: Forum overhaul
I think there's a "rebuild subforum links" button or something like that you need to do when you move things around, otherwise phpbb goes mad.
Failing that, is there a forum cache you can clear in ACP?
