100% agree. All the criteria remotely relevant to why we have 'Daylight Savings Time' has long since disappeared. For example, Coal-Saving in the early 1900's (whatever 'Coal is? ) & the energy Crisis of the early 1970's. There is good evidence that BST. is better for health & mental outlook reasons, particularly in child development.
Quite how one resolves having the actual GMT. in the country that is 1 hour forward of that is another hiccup! Allegedly many polls indicate around 60%-vs-40% in favour of permanent change to BST. but the government are not likely not consider a change until around 95% of the entire population call for it. I've got 16 time-based household, car & garage items to manually change in a modest 2-bed property! Whoops....forgot the cameras, make that 18!! :'(
Bearing in mind we haven't had a worthwhile nationwide referendum for some 16 months now, how about it?
1 here for BST. :thumb:
Until the Scottish and Irish complain AGAIN as happened in the past!! If you leave the clocks forward one hour on DST, in mid-winter it won't get light there in the morning until gone 10AM :grr:

It has been tried before and it was reverted back. There is actually no reason to put the clocks on to Daylight Saving Time (its not British Summer Time btw :thumb:) in the first place. Our clocks should remain on GMT forever and a day, absolutely no reason to change them forward and put them back.

Used Zulu time since being in the RAF. As far as I am concerned makes everything simple, especially when on holiday. It also upsets the wife :D :D

Er, yes it is and is defined as such in law.

As the clocks have gone forward, guessing this means an extra hour should be added to notam times

Just a reminder for UK members to amend their time zone as the clocks have gone back 1 hour today.

1. Click on your name at the top right of screen.
2. Click on 'User control panel'
3. Click on the 'Board preferences' tab.
4. Click on the top drop-down for 'My timezone' and change to 'UTC + 00:00'.
5. Click on 'Submit'

Believe it or not, mine changed automatically overnight.

Last evening it was showing "UTC + 01:00" (I checked specifically) and this morning it is now on "UTC + 00:00". Perhaps the time zone setting of "Europe/London" has something to do with it.

That's interesting, I've changed mine to 'Europe/London' and will see if it updates itself next March.

Remember that, before we had the php upgrade, we used to have the "DST in effect" radio buttons? Perhaps the upgrade has built their action into the time zone associated software and it is now done automatically.

One for Adam to answer, I think.

BOARD CLOCK

The time displayed on the top left hand corner is 1 hour ahead of GMT - do other users see the same thing?

Time is user defined. To change it...

Top right, click the arrow next to your name, click User Control Panel.
Click board preferences
Change time as required

Not being a tech Geek I don't know if it would be possible to show BST times in one colour and GMT/UTC in another automatically. No doubt someone will enlighten me. So many on here seem incapable of stating what actual times are so it would help if people put either UTC or BST after giving a time.

Not everyone on FC is in the UK.

If the time zone is not specified then I would suggest you assume local to the poster? It save a lot of typing of Zs or UTC !

All UK members should, by now, have updated their time settings as follows :-

1. Click on your name at the top right of screen.
2. Click on 'User control panel'
3. Click on the 'Board preferences' tab.
4. Click on the top drop-down for 'My timezone' and change to 'UTC + 01:00' and also change the bottom one to 'Europe/London'
5. Click on 'Submit'

You shouldn't have to update them every time the clocks change in future if you change the bottom one to 'Europe/London'.
