Italian Airforce 100th anniversary 2023

Post by Alf » Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:56 pm

Next year is the 100th anniversary (March 1923) of the forming of the Italian AF. Hopefully they will revive the Practica show or similar for this milestone.

Nice heads up

Hopefully there might be some epic paint schemes

Bound to be mass flypast somewhere? But not at Monza because it's banned!

I’ve heard they are preparing a G-91 to fly during celebrations. So they are preparing something, for sure

Would be handy/helpful if Tiger meet could be planned for early/mid June rather than late May to coincide with this show

Having just checked the AMI website the dates have revised to 17-18th June only now.

Unless I've been afflicted by advanced stupidity (quite likely?) that link doesn't really tell me anything of value, except perhaps what 'Roger' the 'Mascotte of the Anniversary' looks like!
If the issue being highlighted is the reduction from 3 days being 16th to 18th to now being just Sat17th & Sun18th, that's because the Organiser's have shot themselves in both feet by indicating in the advanced publication that it was a 'Three Day Event'. The fact as I understand it are that it still will be....BUT there is no public access on the Friday. That day is reserved for what in UK parlance is "a Families Day / STEM Day for school-kids / Rehearsal"
Given that most enthusiasts attending will have already committed to arriving before Thursday 15th, I anticipate potentially enormous policing issues in keeping off-base viewing areas clear?  ;)

On the link there is a timeline of all the planned events that you can scroll through and the info is about 1/2 way through.

This translation give a bit more info which it appears is going to be free to enter

On the sky of the military airport of Pratica di Mare, a short distance from Rome, there will be a large aerial event open to the public with free admission. The event will be broadcast live on Rai1 and will be an opportunity to illustrate the operational capabilities of the Air Force through its peculiarity, flight, through the exhibitions of planes of the past and present. A unique event, during which you can ‘live’ the Air Force in all its organisational and capacitive nuances

March 28th is the official 100 year AMI anniversary, which will be celebrated with a defilé over Rome (rumors say 100 aircraft). Also it is being said all Italian Air Force airbases will be open to the public.

Might be another interesting event. Anyone with more info on this?

28th March 2023
The Military Ceremony of the Air Force Centenary

The most significant and iconic moment of the Air Force Centenary will obviously be the anniversary of March 28, the date of establishment of the Air Force, which will be celebrated in the splendid setting of the center of Rome with two main events: a military ceremony on the Pincio terrace and an aerial overflight over the city of Rome which should see a formation that will draw the number 100 with the aircraft.

Just noticed the [Translated!] article says " will draw the number 100 with the aircraft." Similar to the RAF 100 ( made with Typhoons) not that there will be 100 aircraft in the flypast although there could well be?

I don't think the Italian police and associated forces will find it a problem. I'd rather not be on the end of it.....

That G91 is going to look superb. it'd be great to see it company with Patrouille de France and Diables Rouge Magisters and a Red Arrow schemed Gnat or two.

Well I can dream can't I?

As I understand it, there will be no foreign participation in the Pratica di Mare event, and the G.91 is probably unlikely to leave Italy, so your dreams are likely to be unfulfilled...

On the plus side, all AM operational bases are due to be open on the 28th March, probably with a small static, and those supporting the flypast in the Roma area could be quite crowded.
