Jever Question

Post by slogen51 » Fri Jun 09, 2023 6:08 pm

Hi

Does anyone here know if the preserved F-104 29+09 can be seen at Jever

Can you drive into the former base or is the F-104F at the main gate?

Thanks

It's not a "former air base".
There might not be any aircraft based there, but it is still a military facility.

Looking at Google maps it is just inside the main gate with a Tornado opposite on the other side of the road.

Thanks for that

I could see the Tornado on maps but couldn't make out the F-104 but can see it on maps as you rightly say on the other side of the road close to the main gate so it should be visible

Definitely worth a short diversion on the way to varel for a UH-1D 71+14 what I also need

Hate to query this Andy, but I think you will find that WS.10 - F104's once flew from Jever
which is taken from the MCP - Publication - German Military Aviation - 1956-1976 by Paul A Jackson

I think you misunderstood what I wrote.
Jever is not a "former air base" because it is still an "air base", ie you can't drive into it because it's still military.
JbG38 used to be there with Tornados.

Few years back now but when I went there in 2013 while over for the Phantom Pharewell the guards weren’t very welcoming and wouldn’t allow photos, could of been that they were fed up with the amount of people who kept turning up? Obviously I would think now there are different guards working there so fingers crossed and good luck to you.
On another note I think it was Aurich (check spelling) Barracks where the guards actually let me and my mate in to the gates unaccompanied to photo whatever we wanted.

F-104F and Tornado duly logged - easy to see and log but no photos - at Jever

Nordholz museum done. Unfortunately being a Sunday only operational aircraft seen were two P-3 not read off and zero choppers outside but the museum is worth the visit

On the Elbe ferry to Schleswig area
