RAAF Amberley

Post by RichardE » Mon Dec 10, 2018 1:04 am

The 10th of December saw the official arrival to Royal Australian Air Force of the F-35A for 3 Squadron to be based at RAAF Williamtown in New South Wales. Australia currently has 10 F-35As with 8 aircraft at Luke AFB and these are the first Australian aircraft to come to the country.

The two aircraft, A35-009 and A35-010 actually arrived at RAAF Amberley in Queensland on the 5th of December via Hickham AFB in Hawaii. These aircraft departed Amberley this morning for the short hour or so flight to Williamtown for the official ceremony.

Interesting capture. Are the ones at Luke likely to be delivered soon, or will they remain for crew training for a while? I will be at Luke in March 2019, and it would be nice to get some Aussies!

Thanks for the comments guys appreciate it.

Paddyboy it’s just such a beautiful looking aircraft though😂

Blueboy67, the first 8 airframes will be staying at Luke for the next for years I think. So you shouldn’t have too much of a problem getting them next year.

Nice pics shame about the subject. I'm with Paddyboy on this. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but the F-35 looks like its been designed by a committee and so should have been named the Camel -after all when the airbrake's out it does look like a hump!
