Gripens arrive at Lossie

Post by onemac » Fri Oct 01, 2010 9:34 pm

The weather this morning should have been like yesterday but as Joe said "would you rather blue sky and no aircraft or aircraft in bad weather? There was a bit of a heart-stopping moment as ATC explained the crosswind component on runway 23 as opposed to runway 10 where the caravan was situated but the first two pairs did approaches on 23 anyway just after 9:00L. All 6 were down by 9:30L and I finally got to my nine O' clock meeting a tad late but happy.

1. The first arrival overshoots due to radio problems

2. And his partner touched tarmac first (3 times due to the conditions)
Image

3. 230 eventually made it a few minutes later with a dummy lgb hung from the starboard outer pylon
Image

4. The rest (apart from 278) had targeting pods
Image

5. The twin-stick is rather nice
Image

6. And even managed a strobe

7. 276 with a little vapourette on the canard

Thanks for looking.

You did a good job on those given the conditions .Must have been a bit breezy down near the shore there.

Did 230 get parked elsewhere as looking at the coloured bands on the GBU-12, it looks to be a live weapon?

That's what I thought but all pairs confirmed by radio no live weapons apart from chaff and flares. All 6 Gripens parked on Bravo Hard - the 14 Sqn line, where usually live armed aircraft park on Lima Hard.

Always like seeing the Swedish in the UK, glad they are more involved in NATO exercises now.

Good to see Al, shame the weather couldn't play ball for you.

Are you sure that PGM is not a live one? It's got a gold and brown ring on it.

If you look closely at the GBU12 the Yellow band is round the seeker head and not the actual Mk82 bomb. The Brown band could be Bronze and indicates that it is an inert Mk82. Therefore it is an inert GBU12 with an active seeker, that's what I'm led to believe anyway.
