Hurricane Laura Evacuations

Post by hawgwash » Thu Aug 27, 2020 6:47 am

Barksdale B-52's started bugging out earlier on Wednesday with at least Minot and Carswell getting some. Unfortunatley, they arrived here in Texas after the sunset so not great for photo's. Here are a few of the arrivals. All used 93rd BS callsign SCALP.

the OT is a good catch!! always considered the test A/c to be better to get as there are fewer chances
a few years back now went to a Phancon at Holloman AFB, and there was an Open Day that weekend for which they seemed to fly the base F117's out
and in those was an OT which I personally was more happy to get than the HO's

Great set, thanks for sharing. I've also never seen the "OT" tail code before, can anyone enlighten me on that one?

it is worn by A/c operating with the 53rdwing operating from EGLIN AFB & NELLIS AFB
which are broken down into EG's = Evaluation Groups and ES's = Evaluation Squadrons
thats the basic layout anyhow.if you purchase the MACH III Publication - United States Air Forces Directory this helps to explain more - message reply to IMarsh

Test and Evaluation Squadrons (TES).

Nellis is home to the 422nd TES, which operates examples off all the types based at Nellis (A-10, F-15C, F-15E, F-16, F-22, F-35 and HH-60G)
Eglin has the 85th TES (F-15C, F-15E, F-16 iirc).

The BUFF is operated by the 49th TES, based at Barksdale.

There are also OT B-1Bs, which are with the 337th TES based at Dyess.

Both of these make occasional appearances at Nellis, usually during the Weapons School end of course exercises in June and December.

All part of the 53rd Test and Evaluation Group.
