Typhoon Central (with added Wildcat) - RAF Coningsby 29.11.23

With a couple of days of Annual Leave to use up before the end of the year, I decided to take a day trip to RAF Coningsby to see the Typhoons, spent the morning down by the traffic lights at the 25 end as well as the edge of the field near the Bravo Taxiway. I then moved around to Reedham Lane in the afternoon to catch the second wave of jets.

Was really lucky to see each of the squadrons flying and even more lucky (I think anyway) to see a marked up jet from each of the squadrons. A nice number of PTOs as well as low approaches and always a few friendly pilots!

We also were lucky to see a Wildcat (Gangster73) that had been working Donna Nook on Flare Trials which landed on the 25 threshold and then taxied back past me along Bravo

A very nice selection of jets with squadron markings. Such a shame that on several of the grey ones you can see where the squadron markings have been removed. Guess it makes life easier to have pooled aircraft but it sure makes photographing very boring and uninspiring. Bring back the days of "photocalls" where aircraft proudly showed off squadron markings. Good money to be raised for charity without all the necessary costs incurred by having an airshow. Have missed photographing so many special schemes, especially European ones, with us having so few airshows in the UK and not being able to travel abroad through ill health. These have brightened up my day. Thank you.

Lovely light to be had in winter

I always like me the performance take off from the two-five end - Rotate - vertical inside the airfield perimeter; they make eagles look heavy.

Matt, nice photos you hit the nail on the head regarding NO markings coningsby was brilliant when they where all in markings, lots of specials I got bored with grey grey aircraft after a while so decided after 48 years in the hobby finally packed the hobby up.
nice photos of the wildcat from donna looks like he fired 4 flares from one side?
