Fliegerhorst Nörvenich

Post by Reaper02 » Sat Jun 07, 2025 3:33 pm

Because there is not much to see at the moment in The Netherlands (due to several restictions with regards to noise and the environment and two, if you're 'lucky' four dull 35's doesn't do it for me) drove to Germany last week for a short, three hour visit to Fliegerhorst Nörvenich to catch the based Eurofighters and temporary based Tornado bombers. Choose a day with preferred southern winds and sunshine in the morning resulting in the following shots:

1. Image
EF-2000 31+41, with some mission markings underneath the canopy, entering the runway around 08:30lt for its trainingsmission up north. It would depart with three others, join the tanker and fly towards Sweden carrying a GBU-49 practice bombs.

2. Image
Lined up and ready for departure runway 24.

3.Image
Tornado IDS from the temporary based Taktischen Luftwaffengeschwaders 33 lining up. In 2026 Büchel's runway and taxiway renovations etc. in preparation for the new F-35A's should be ready and the Tornado's will return again to their homebase.

4.Image
45+13 short final runway 24 at Nörvenich. This Tornado carries the marking from Taktischen Luftwaffengeschwaders 51 based at Schleswig.

Thanks all, looking to visit myself next week. What are the rules regards the local road at the 24 end, do you need to park your car in the nearby village and walk down to the fence?

You can drive up to the approach area of runway 24, just park your car on the lefthand side into the grass well before the crashgate and clear of the road so traffic (farmers etc) can pass. Although there is a sign that says 'anlieger frei', meaning only residents and visitors are allowed to pass through, they allow spotters/aviation enthusiasts there as well (unlike some other bases in Germany!). Just be aware the winddirection will change towards the north next week so they are probably gonna fly RWY06 and the situation over there is completely different (not possible to make taxi / line-up shots, high(er) landings).

Best, Edwin
