C-2A Greyhound at RAF Lakenheath (and others)
October was a busy and exciting month at RAF Lakenheath with the deployment of F-22 Raptors and F/A-18 Super Hornets from the USS Harry S Truman. However due to work commitments I couldn’t make the journey down from Yorkshire until the 25th October and I watched the news of them both departing with a little disappointment.
So on the night of the 24th Ocotber I went to bed early with the alarm set for 4:15am still unsure where to go (Manchester south side, RAF Coningsby and/ Waddington or down to Mildenhall and Lakenheath).
In the end I held my nerve and took the near 3 hour journey to Suffolk, still not sure if I would see much.
As it turned out I had an amazing trip to RAF Lakenheath with the arrival of one of the USS Harry S Truman’s C-2A Greyhounds running in to Lakenheath. This was especially nice as I saw my first Greyhound in September 2017 taking off from RAF Mildenhall and I was convinced that I wouldn’t get to see one again.
Here’s my C-2A Greyhound shots and a couple from the home team. Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them…and starting with my favorite image from the day
