Misty Merlins on Dartmoor

Post by Mictheslik » Sun Apr 30, 2023 4:45 pm

Despite living in the South West for some reason I had never ventured down to Dartmoor for the annual Ten Tors event. This year I decided to rectify this and spent an enjoyable day watching the comings and goings of a pair of 845 NAS Jungly Merlins as they moved equipment up to the Tors.

It started off very misty with a low cloud base. Nevertheless, the first Merlin went for a recce in challenging conditions. At one point I was stood in the cloud and could hear them passing below me!

Fortunately late in the morning the cloudbase lifted and we were treated to some superb flying, culminating in the "delivery" of one of the artillery guns that makes up the start line of the event.

Nice. I assume the pics are from just outside Okehampton Camp?

Nice set in challenging conditions, I spent the Friday there also. Good to see both Merlins fully operational for over 7 hours
