Spanish AF PC-21 deliveries

Post by Approach23 » Tue Apr 26, 2022 8:59 am

Delivered yesterday, 25/04, to San Javier AB was HB-HWR and HB-HWS. To become E.27-18 and E.27-19 respectively. HB-HWS was up flying this morning as such.

Hi, we have a villa not far from San Javier. Is spotting/photographing allowed near the end of the runway?

Thanks
Mark

Mark,

Sorry for the delay, but San Javier AB is not reported on very often, only by me as I am out in the area at least twice a year. Anyway when last there in Nov 22 the road to the end of the runway was closed as it was being re-laid. Before these works there is a road on the left and you can catch the PC21s after landing as they taxi to the apron.

For T35s you can catch them as they taxi to the end of the short runway by going into the road to the old civil terminal. That road is now blocked by welded gates but there is a small portion that you can park at. BTW Spain have ordered another 16 PC21s to replace the T35s.

I won't be out until later this year and will give an up-to-date report at that time. One place I haven't got to yet is Albacete when a TLP is on, must do better.

Happy spotting in Spain.

Also there is a small but pleasant resort area offset to the runway where they land across the sea - not perfect for photos but you can read stuff off. There is a sea wall you can sit on.

37.7953702, -0.8028358

There are a couple of hotels plus the usual bars and ice cream vendors

Can't remember the name

I also only visit when out for a TLP

(Albacete is easy to do and fairly spotter friendly during TLP they tolerate you as long as you keep away from the fence)

Santiago de la Ribera is the name of the resort also it’s close to St Javier main gates
Fence patrols very friendly there.
Hope this helps,Neil.
