Middle Wallop 1992 Part One

Post by papadolmio » Fri Jun 12, 2020 5:29 pm

Next batch of slides scanned. I want to try and stay away from the standard airshow shots and cover the behind the scenes and the less well known shows. So here goes:

In 1992 I was invited to assist as a Runway Controller at the International Airshow and Heli-meet hosted by the Army Air Corps at Middle Wallop.

Home Team (mostly) first:

No post on Middle Wallop would be complete without at least one shot of the massed helicopter formation. This ones a bit different- taken from directly underneath the front line. I would have got more but had to hastily vacate the runway caravan ( a 1960's vintage Karrier Bantam- there's one at Duxford- check it out) to recover the caravan windsock which had been blown off (with an incredible bang) by the down wash before it ended up in someone's rotor disk!

Top set and memories  :Wow: What an experience to be in the area for that last shot
Nice to see the Army Chipmunk, I'm sure many of us can recall our first AEF in the type. They did like to ensure the chute was well fitted
