Cranfield Classic Jet & Fighter show - 16 August '98

Post by F3 » Wed Aug 10, 2022 7:37 am

One of the most memorable air shows of 1998 was Cranfield's (sadly never repeated) Classic Jet & Fighter show organised by Mark and Ray Hanna (no longer with us). This was a continuation of a show which had previously occupied the midsummer slot on the Duxford calendar until bumped by Flying Legends. The highlight of the show was the first ever public taxi run of a Lightning (T5 XS 458 star of the Arnold Glass collection). Altho it was good to see an active Lightning again after 10 yrs. w/out them, the run was not spectacular as reheat was not engaged. Other highlights of a very good display line-up were the Hunter trio and the Czech Aero duo. Mark Hanna tragically lost his life the following year when his Buchon crashed in Spain. A sad loss to the air show scene.

Heavens!!!. You do spoil us.!! Lovely shot of the Jet Provost T.1 next to the T.5. Interesting comparison!!.Echo your remarks re poor Mark Hanna. Terrible accident not really fully explained. Lovely pictures all round.
