Got any more of the Canberra anniversary show? I went to that. I remember a 51Sqn Nimrod started up, taxied out and took off, everyone forgot the Canberras for a few minutes.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Yeh i remember that too. Back then 51sqn Nimrods were ultra rare to see. I did wonder while taking a few photos of it if somebody might come over and confiscate my camera! :ninja: The Canberra show was great, especially the German based squadrons that came over with (mainly) Tornados...again not common to see back then. Thanks for sharing.

Loved the Meteor, and sadly witnessed it's demise. Nice pics as usual.

Great pictures, thanks for posting your efforts are much appreciated. The 40th Anniversary when the RAF gave a fig and made the effort with participants and special colour schemes.

Don’t recall the Nimrod takeoff have to dig out my slides.

Thanks for sharing these, some great shots and memories. I went to that Canberra event at Wyton too and as said, nice to see the various RAFG aircraft there too. I took a sneaky pic of the 51 Sqn Nimrod as well, but I think I got away with it. Nobody turned up during the night and battered down the door.
Looking at the others, all nice to see and I miss the Meteor as well, still one of my favourite types.

Fabulous post, Kev

I was at the Canberra event, sans camera, too, and it was excellent :D

The mock-up of the Canberra fitted with a ‘side-winder’ was a superb touch

The Canberra painted in the all-over blue of the prototype was a great job too ;)

Thanks for another super set :)

What I have scanned so far is a film that starts at Bentwaters and ends with what must be the beginning of this Canberra Anniversary event, then a whole film of Canberras and other static subjects and then another film which has several variations of the Canberras in a row from this post and then Mildenhall Fly-in - which would have been 26th May, two weeks after this event, so the beginning, the end and one film in the middle... whether there's another whole film from the "middle" still in the big box of slide boxes waiting to be scanned, at the moment I don't know.
There's no Nimrod in any of those that I've scanned - but now you've mentioned it I do vaguely remember Campadre Keefo getting rather excited about the Nimrod with the extra bits hanging off it, he was much more into finer detail regarding types, squadrons etc than I was.

They'll be quite a few more from this day in later mixed bag posts, think I've finished quite a few from that day because they scanned in quite nicely, on a quick count up about another 14, but mainly Tornadoes. I've also got some of these from a previous attempt at scanning - a few years ago, they are mostly Canberras so in the next few days I'll prep those up, upload them and do a specific post for them.

Kev I was going to upload my many shots of that day at Wyton, but I do not wish to steal your thunder. However I will load the small number of other static types that were off to one side. I cannot think how many Canberras I serviced and marshalled in and out of Akrotiri pans. (Easier than the mighty Vulcans later in my service). thanks for the memories, Gordon.

Gordon,

There's no thunder being stolen - please get them uploaded, I'd be delighted to see them as I'm sure many others would.
