RAF Wildenrath open day, June 15 1969, 3/3

Post by Keflavik69 » Sun Dec 18, 2022 10:07 am

This is not only the final part of the open day at RAF Wildenrath in 1969 but also my final contribution to this forum for black/white photography. It is funny that last year I wanted to post just a single picture, a Hastings at Keflavik. But the reactions on that picture made me show some more. The ensuing snowball effect resulted in me entering 50-plus posts.
In 1972 I started taking slides but I have scanned very few slides up to now. I might be able to post some events from the seventies next year but the amount will nowhere come near the number of black/white posts I entered since December 2021 because I want to limit myself to events from the seventies. The eighties are covered so well by others like Haveblue, KeBul, Harold van Eupen, F3 and others, my contributions would have no added value.
Once again I would like to thank you all for all the positive reactions I received on my pictures, they were very encouraging and stimulating.
I hope you enjoy part 3 of the Wildenrath open day.

Fantastic

Look at those RAF Phantoms - pin sharp. I saw 228 OCU Phantoms at Coningsby in the 1970s

Is that one of the covert Pembrokes!

I reckon you could publish a series of books - I would buy them

Thanks Arnold, for providing this latest selection of shots, plus all those you've added over the past year or so, I think it's been absolute joy to us to see them. Very nostalgic for all of us. It's interesting to see Scout XP849 in a camo scheme, for the last year's of service it was based at Boscombe Down and wore the Raspberry Ripple scheme and attended many shows. All great shots and hard to pick a favourite. Look forward to seeing the colour views.

Once again I am in awe of your photographs, I wish that we had spent more time talking together of the old(er) days when we were at Phancons. I look forward, as do the gang on the forum, to your future offerings.
Regards to you and yours, Gordon.

Amazing and very evocative of the time. If you can spare the time to post more they'd be appreciated, even if the events and airframes have been covered before some of us here can never get eonough of the shots from years past.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Hi Arnold. Don't post much on here these days, just work and life in general getting in the way, maybe that will change next year when I properly retire. I have to say that the quality and content of your black and white posts on here have been absolutely outstanding, and I am truly envious of some of the things you have seen, many of which bypassed me by just a few years. I look forward to future posts from your "colour" collection, as I'm sure many others on here do too. Thank you.

A lovely set of images to round off your black/white contributions, Arnold, with some classic and sadly-missed airframes featured there. Thank you very much for all your wonderful posts. I look forward to seeing some of your colour collection when you have the time.

XV395 was the first RAF Phantom to be lost, on the 9th July ‘69 - near Horncastle on approach to Coningsby; thankfully, there were no casualties.
With that large “470” on the fuselage I suspect she had been at the Paris Airshow in early June.
Arnold, please don’t stop posting anything and everything.

Hi Arnold ... I echo the truly favourable preceding comments and add that I too have derived great pleasure in viewing your remarkably clear images of a golden era.
I hope you and your loved ones have a truly wonderful Christmas and I (like the many others) look forward to whatever you supply next.
Best regards, Terry
