Interesting, never seen a picture of one with a white radome, might make a different model.

Any idea of the serial number?

Thanks for sharing

It's just an F-111E with a replacement, unpainted radome - unless you mean the EF-111A's?

Great I long remember spending days up there by the railway bridge. We even used to drive onto the base by the tower to get the numbers of difficult to read visitors . I wouldn't try that these days , different times.

Thanks for sharing those wonderful memories with us Sparky :thumb: I really miss Heyford, it was by far my favourite place to be - especially at the Ardley end. I was made up when the M40 opened, it made access to UH so much easier for anyone from "up Norf". And then tragically within a few short years the plug was pulled :( Glad I was around... ;)

I kinda worked that one out for myself🙄

I just wondered if he knew the serial number so that I could make a model of it😁

Thanks

It's actually the nose-cone from an EF-111A, not an unpainted one. Someone will know which jet this was, I've seen other images of it.

Brilliant - thanks Sparky. Never get too much of the old '111s!

Good catches with the 'MO' EF-111 and the E with the Raven nose :thumb:

Keep them coming

Some great reminders of a base I spent a lot of time at, recording movements on 8mm cine film and later, video. One of those I recorded on the 11th of April'88, was an F-111E with a white EF nose - this was 68-0041/UH-red. I note the one in the image also has a red fin tip so it may be the same a/c. Always liked getting the based EF's but when there were MO/CC transits it was even better. Such was the case when 67-0037/MO staged through with 67-0052/MO (above image) in May'92, going Plattsburgh - Upper Heyford - Dhahran as "Retro31/32". I was also in `spy corner` on the 13th when they both departed for the Middle East. (67-0052 had previously been based at Upper Heyford with the 42nd ECS.)

Thanks for the info, you’ve answered my question
