Thank you for posting those, so many memories of Cottesmore and Thomas The Tank Engine. Cut my my teeth on Tornado there from 1981 to 1986. Brilliant place to work, the line was so busy as was the shed. Our busiest day was something like 45 sorties in one day and 1200hours flown in one month. 20 years later we were lucky if the Sqns flew that in a year!

Hi Mark :P

What a stunning set of a true legend of an aircraft

Then you go and throw some Tooms into the mix :Wow:

Thanks for posting :thumb:

Paddyboy

PS: I was a regular Fujichrome user too ;)

Cheers (as ever) Pat, and to everyone I'm delighted to have evoked so many happy memories :thumb:

Must have been a hectic sortie profile using internal fuel only? Were any external tanks used at all for TTTE?

No external tanks at all, most sorties only lasted 1 hour 20 - 1 hour 35ish
And their guns were stored in a big room in the bomb dump, remember seeing them all lined up !

Thank you very much for posting all these interesting pictures Roughcutter. This is a real surprise post since you kept adding photos. Although I never went to a familiesday, I have good memories about that bend in the road where I spent many happy hours with all the flying taking place in those days. Especially when the Italians were flying which I considered to be a real bonus because the Italy-based Tornado's were rather uncommon in our region.

Thanks Arnold, I guess we didn't appreciate what we had until it's gone.
