Duxford Airspace reorganisation 11-04-2025

Post by andygolfer » Sun Apr 13, 2025 9:46 am

I pooped into Duxdord on Friday on my way home from Lakenheath mainly to get pics of the Avro York which is now outside in the sunshine (pics on my flickr page). I Then went inside the Airspace hangar which has been cleared somewhat since my visit two weeks ago and several exhibits are now photographable uncluttered for the first time in 19 yea. Here's a selection starting with the Mosquito which was close to completing it's descent from the ceiling...

Qwik-Fit turned up just in time...

the Lancaster and not the tight parking in the front area of the hangar in the background!

and dare I post photos of this, it usually starts a debate about the rights and wrongs of the cancellation, TSR.2 XR222, last time I photographed this was May 2006 on the day it was moved into the newly extended hangar,

and away from Airspace, the hangar door was open where the Beaufighter is still being slowly restored and I managed a pic of it albeit with the engines in front of it - I hope to live long enough to see it fly but it's been under restoration as long as I can remember and still seems a very long way off...

the situation changes in there quite quickly , I was there two weeks ago and got some pics of other bits so will post them on another topic when I've uploaded them to flickr.
thanks for looking , hope they are of interest
C&C welcome

Always nice to see some pics from Duxford, and not have to avoid all the garbage you get about the changes as endlessly appears on Faceidiotbook

Thanks for sharing these with us, not been there for a few years, so a revisit is overdue.

Shame the Beaufughter is progressing so slowly, I'd love to see it fly, and the F24 Spitfire although I know that's not under restoration to fly.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

I thought Mr. Gray had given up on the Beaufighter years ago when a proposed deal in Australia fell through. I understood at the time the main problem with the aircraft was propeller splines fitting the engines??. All the other twins he owned were sold when the CAA decided he himself was too old to fly them.
