Ah, Finningley.

I was the Hawk display pilot, and the weather was definitely poor when I flew! I do remember the Blue Angels flying but I cant remember whether it was a practice or on the show day.

Interestingly, we had been on detachment in Taszar, in Hungary, a month or so before - which in itself was quite exciting so soon after the Warsaw Pact had ended. It transpired that one of the Hungarian pilots was due to be in UK on a language course. So we 'sprang' him from his course and took him to Finningley for the show. It was quite an experience for him to get to see inside the Vulcan and the spangly new Harrier GR5.

Good times.

Terrific photos, mind if I save some please ?
I arrived on the Concorde (with my folks for their Ruby wedding anniversary present) but it was late having gone Tech into Manchester (from Paris) so only had time to quickly rush round the static (posh lunch in the marquee took priority !)
I remember 1980 as well, taking a pal on a motorcycle. I was ok in my wet-weather gear, he was soaked and frozen !!

Excellent set of shots. The Angels did give a spirited flat display and I managed to catch #6 on his low level take off in full reheat. Camera equipment has moved on a bit since then!!!

I seem to remember on the Friday (arrivals/rehearsals), individual and pairs of BA Hornets sporadically taking off and returning throughout the day, mainly to orientate themselves with the local land marks.

After Boscombe Down in June, weather-wise 92 was an absolutely lousey Summer, It pee'd down every where I went, every time I went out :@
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

It's great that these pictures, taken on a grey day, bring back so many memories. It was my only Finningley BoB Display as I usually went to Leuchars for the Phantoms and F3s.

Thank you for posting some great pictures and memory reminders. Went with my best mate Steve (RIP) and we drove all the way up from Lechlade and stayed to being thrown out. Great display by BA, recall hearing the Hornet go up but could see nothing and the static was something can only dream about know.

The one and only time I've seen the BA doing their thing, to this day its still the best display I've ever seen, by a display team anyway......

Looks like this was a super show, I can’t imagine why I didn’t attend.
