Spotters/photographers were spoilt for choice in those days - I recall on a number of occasions looking down the approach at an incoming aircraft, to realise "it's only an F4" and not being very interested. Thanks for the memories Keith, you don't happen to have a Tardis to loan out, by any chance?

Got caught a few times with an F-4 lining up for the approach only to find it was a visitor so always made sure had camera to hand.
Amazing that F-4's were stationed at 12 bases in Europe from Spain (TJ), Germany (BT,RS,ZR, HR, SP), Holland (CR), UK (AR, WR-2, LN) and Iceland.
Did catch a few 'BA' from Bergstrom in Texas on European detachment too.
1977 was the start of the big reshuffle of F-4's with Lakenheath shipping theirs back to the US in exchange for F-111F
