Thanks Darren, its quite interesting that the 52nd TFW (SP) at Spangdahlem at one point actually operated 'C', 'D' , 'E' and 'G' models.
The 'C' models fitted up with the ALQ119 jamming pod in the front bay were the 'Wild Weasels' before the dedicated 'G' models arrived.
A couple of the 'C' s pictured here carry the pod.

Spotters/photographers were spoilt for choice in those days - I recall on a number of occasions looking down the approach at an incoming aircraft, to realise "it's only an F4" and not being very interested. Thanks for the memories Keith, you don't happen to have a Tardis to loan out, by any chance?

Got caught a few times with an F-4 lining up for the approach only to find it was a visitor so always made sure had camera to hand.
Amazing that F-4's were stationed at 12 bases in Europe from Spain (TJ), Germany (BT,RS,ZR, HR, SP), Holland (CR), UK (AR, WR-2, LN) and Iceland.
Did catch a few 'BA' from Bergstrom in Texas on European detachment too.
1977 was the start of the big reshuffle of F-4's with Lakenheath shipping theirs back to the US in exchange for F-111F
Oh happy days

Hi Keith, ah yes, ignore an incoming F4 at your peril.....57th FIS was the stand-out example for me, while waiting at the church end at Bentwaters.

The Church End at Bentwaters now there's another mind blowing place for F-4s . By sheer fluke made a visit during hols on 27-28th July 1976 there just happened to be a 'Maxeval' in progress so just had to camp over - a notice board on the perimeter vehicle road displayed 86 missions Scheduled/Flown. Just a constant stream of Phantoms ..absolutely brilliant.
