Aviation Museum Wernigerode, Germany

Post by awacsfan » Mon Oct 05, 2009 11:04 am

I do hope this is the right section to post those images on the new Fighter Control forum.

I visited that Museum back in 2007 already and here is what I was able to enjoy looking at then. The "Luftfahrtmuseum" (Aviation Museum) is located in Wernigerode, Germany, a small but beautiful city on the Eastern side of the former border between East and West. Apart from various aircraft, they also have many model, uniforms, ejection seats, cockpits, engines, etc. on display. I hope to be able to get back there next year again and see what may have changed.

Apart from the Russian hardware, here is the one I enjoyed very much:

On our way back, we came across this privately owned hardware, tucked away on private property in a small village

Since we weren't allowed on the property it was kind of difficult to get to a good photo position but at least you get the idea. Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy,
cheers

Andy

PS: Thanks again for getting the forum up and running so fast! I'm tremendously glad Fighter Control is alive and kicking again!

Thanks Mark, very much appreciate your kind words. The cockpit shot is from an ex- German Navy Br.1150 Breguet-Atlantic MPA. They also have parts of the gear and engines on display there.
Cheers

Great shots, that Tiger marked G.91 is made of of 4 different airframes, as are quite a few aircraft in there!

Where was the MiG-21 located, may I ask?

That shark-mouth MiG-21 is located in the small village of Eisdorf, Germany. Here's the google maps link to that village which isn't far from the city of Northeim where I stayed with family during my vacation trip.

http://maps.google.de/maps?client=firef ... =de&tab=wl

just type in EISDORF and if gives you the village.

If you go on the satellite view of google maps and zoom in on the village, the MiG is located in the Northern corner, adjacent of a larger grey coloured industrial building.

Slightly OT, but here's a website that lists all surviving MiG-21s with locations and picture links

http://www.mig-21.de/ddrverbleib.htm

Hope this helps,
cheers
